|
 |
I know we got a few other people here that dabble in music.
Anyone got suggestions for a good brand of studio monitor speakers for around $200-250ish?
Preferably something self powered, and accepts RCA or 1/4 jack per speaker.
Mostly do ambient/classical/electronic music, and know some brands favor some genres for best flat output.
Anyone got any suggestions?

Think I might poke around and look at those m-audio ones, so far m-audio has been good for my other parts, my first ASIO hardware panel, and midi controller/keyboard was from them.
The rokkits look nice and the specs are great, but 250 for each is a bit much for me |
Hold on till later. I saw a pair of m audio at a pawn shop that looked brand new. Don't remember the price or model but I could pick them up and ship them to you if it's s good deal.
It's not a back alley kind of pawn shop, more of a retail store like pawn shop.

That would be sweet if they do and the price is worth it plus shipping, and you wouldn't mind doing it.
I Haven't seen any at pawnshops near me

Alright so here's the low down bro sauce.
http://www.amazon.com/M-Audio-Active-Studio-Monitor-Speakers/dp/B005F3H6Q8
They still had this set sitting on their shelf. Scale 1-10 condition I'd give them an 8. Speakers themselves are in great condition. I made them (took 10 minutes to find the cords needed) hook it up and played some pink floyd on them and they sounded beautiful.
The boxes themselves just show normal life wear. Nothing chipped off or ugly looking, just a scratch here and there. If you put them on your desk I doubt you'd even notice.
They're 180 dollars for the pair. I'm pretty sure if I have cash on hand i could talk them down to maybe 150. I already know the speech I can use to get them to bring it down in price. IT's M-Audio, these are designed for a very Niche market, I know for a fact they've been there for a few weeks already and for some every day consumer is going to have no idea who M-Audio is and is going to choose the Bose or Polk or Klipsch speakers they have set up. Then if they look at the back of these, they're going to be confused as fuck by the connectors used.
That speech alone should get them to drop the price especially if I show them I get the cash in hand.
I'm trying to find the weight of them so I can see how much shipping would be.
I did the 25.9 pounds amazon said and it's coming to about 45ish for shipping.
So at most, you'd be saving around 50 bucks this way. Who knows, maybe I can talk them down cheaper.

Holy necro!!!
I'm thinking to update my sound system and looking for budget studio monitors + external sound card (most likely Focusrite Scarlet Solo 2nd gen or 2i2 2nd Gen). For studio monitors I have two in mind:
JBL LSR308 and Adam Audio T7V both are within my budget ~200€ per unit.
JBL LSR 308:
8" (203 mm) Woofer
1" (25 mm) Tweeter
56 Watt Class-D amplifier for the woofer and a 56 watt class-D amplifier for the tweeter
37 Hz - 24 kHz
112 dB max. SPL (C-Weighted)
Balanced inputs: XLR & jack
Magnetic shielding
High and low frequency trim control +/- 2 dB
Adam Audio T7V:
7 "woofer and 1.9" U-ART ribbon tweeter
2x Class-D amplifier: 50W RMS woofer, 20W RMS tweeter
Frequency range: 39 - 25000 Hz
Crossover frequency: 2.6 kHz
Maximum level: 110 dB (1m / pair)
Back bass reflex opening
Connections: line input XLR and RCA
My needs are simple: electric guitar, general music listening, movies, games.
I'm thinking about Adam's due RCA input but these are fairly new and not a lot of reviews are out there. Any other recommendations are first hand experience with mentioned models?

Consider Yamaha HS7´s, or if you can stretch your budget a bit, then HS8´s (little over 200 euro per unit).

My first pick was HS7 which is also 199€. But then I asked for some other recommendations and got advise to skip Yamaha and get something better for that amount of money - JBL or Adam.
Checked some videos and Yamaha sounded flat and "boring" compared to these two. At the moment none of local shops have more than one of mentioned studio monitors so I could test it myself.

And how does low ends sound with 5" woofer? Or do you have a subwoofer?

My friend who is playing guitar is using Behringer B3031A, these can be found sometimes around 400 euro pair, they sound amazing, kevlar 8.5" woofers and they also have ribbon tweeters, which are very unusual on this price point. Low extension from pair of those is amazing.

The G3's (Generation 3) actually have a bass knob on the back and it sounds pretty good. I don't use them to listen to albums or tv, I use them when I record, mix and edit stuff I record (I play the guitar).

Picked up 2xAdam Audio T7V and Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 2nd Gen from store yesterday. Whole package cost me 450€. Only listened music, haven't tried to plug in guitar to scarlett yet. But difference is huge.
