Release Date: 2011
Platforms: PC
Publisher: SEGA
Developer: The Creative Assembly
Genre Turn-based Strategy

Fact Sheet Leak

Quote:
Total War Redefined: Shogun 2 is the ultimate refinement of the original formula with a new, cutting-edge AI, more polish and online functionality than ever before. The result is the perfect mix of real-time and turn-based strategy gaming that invites both veterans of Total War and new players to experience the enjoyment and depth of the series.

New Character Progression: Choose from 9 different clans and compete on and offline for the undisputed supremacy of Medieval Japan. Gain experience to level up your own character-warlord as well as your generals and agents.

A Complete Single And Multiplayer Offering: Play through the Main Campaign in single player or invite a friend online to play competitively or cooperatively in Campaign Multiplayer mode. Join 8-player multiplayer battles with your own upgradable avatar and climb the online Leaderboard to show the world who reigns supreme. Also including exciting new modes of team play for clans, a first in the Total War series.

New Generation AI System: Developed according to Sun Tzu’s principles in the Art of War, the Artificial Intelligence constantly analyses its situation and reacts to your every move with greater precision and variety.

Improved Land And Naval Battle Gameplay: Land battles never felt so realistic with new multi-staged castle sieges and terrain features changing according to the weather and time of the day – turning each engagement into a tactical challenge. Set buildings on fire to force garrisoned troops out and use your units’ special abilities to turn the tide of the battle.

Naval combat also offers more variety with the addition of coastal battles. Islands can work as effective cover for your ships, while sand bars and reefs can be used as traps against an enemy fleet.

Accessible And In-Depth Empire-Building Gameplay: A streamlined User Interface makes management of your kingdom much easier. Build and govern cities, recruit and train troops, conduct diplomacy and manage your agents – each feature is now introduced with comprehensive tutorials, gradually revealing the depth of the Shogun 2 campaign map – the heart and soul of the Total War experience.

Woah that's great news!

The original was really good one (started the whole series Wink) and the time period is definitely worthy of another visit. Good to see they didn't succumb to the currently "hip" trend of moving everything to modern times (or WW2). Smile

Great news indeed, the only thing that scares me,is what these jerks did with empire...
I see already the multiplayer notification"Now you can upgrade your general to level 3 only for 1.99$".Altough I was a huge fan for the series and own every total war includingl empire,i highly doubt i will buy this.

I think,therefore i am,but not necessarily today.

Its great that its shogun2 and not rome2. And it sucks that they wont make a fantasy game, i would have loved something similar to thera - legacy of the great torment ! Sad

If they make a Warhammer Total War, that would be orgasmic! Very Happy

But I doubt they'd bother.

With how the recent Total War games are ... I have my doubts. I hope it's battle-oriented like the first one. The world map gameplay isn't what I want, some people like it, but I don't like that kind of strategy/management.

Less agents moving arouns, less city building and management (except training centers and defensive buildings), more battles and RPG features, and aggressive, non-predictable AI.

Less sieges and more open field brutal samurai clashes !!

Less strict formations, more chaos. I want duels, not mob/boxes ...

Back to the fucking roots. Relaunch the franchise.

OMG that is so cool. Honest to God just a week ago I was thinking about this. I told myself I bet the next Total War will return to medieval Japan. Shogun and Rome are the best in the series in my opinion. In fact I rate Rome just slightly above Shogun.

Top stuff! Oh and yes I agree a Warhammer Total War would've been totally awesome. I still remember those old Warhammer games with RPG elements. What was it again? Something about a Horned rat? Those games were awesome.

Swish! Original Shogun was the best, along with Medieval 1 (before they went 3D), Napoleon is the best TW with 3D engine yet, I expect no less from Shogun.

Well for Rome 2, there are some good mods for Empire that are quite well done. (It is true about "Shogun" as well, I think).

I can't wait for this! I sincerely hope that they won't screw it up though.

VGAdeadcafe - The strategy is what makes the campaign interresting. If you just want to fight you could just create quick battles.

The more I think about it, the more I want a new Rome instead. The thing that made me dislike Empire (crappy AI and bugs aside) was that there are too little differences in the troop types between different factions.
The same problem will probably exist in a new Shogun game if they are going to follow any historical time period.
Medieval and Rome had the most variety.

For all who wants a new Rome, I think we'll see a Rome II in the next installment. It was only natural to return to the roots. I also really like the Japanese history.

Wonder if there is possible to make anything out of chinese history, the romance of the three kingdoms and all that?

Rome 2, CA, you bastards!

Well at least maybe this game will be the Empire Total War and Rome 2 will be the Napoleon Total War. Polished, cleaner, better, but still dumb fuck AI because, well it's CA.

Then a shit load of pointless DLC's. Like get to play as the aboriginal people of the Japanese islands!
