i have a question for you i have noticed when loading games the intros or movies alays skip (freeze while playing), i`m using a Seagate 80gig 7200 RPM and i think the model is 2mb buffer, i was wondering if a 8mb buffer HD would run movies better

I doubt it's the drive at all. I've got a 16Mb cache in my PS2. Could it be it's because it's a Seagate. My Maxtor runs them perfectly.

Hang on, is it a usb drive?
If it is, then no wonder. USB is not fast enough with it's transfer speeds.

Its going through USB 1.1 so that is why the slow speeds. It is a lot better going through the standard PS2 way.

No NO NO NO NO, you buy the network adapter and it has IDE ports for standard hdds, can be bought in Europe and in the US. Japan had a slightly different design on their early ps2s, not sure if they made the Japanese design to look like the European/American design

For the new PS2 Slim ones it is not possible, as Jenni said, get a standard PS2.

If you can wait a month, the HDConnect mod from Team Xtreme will be out probably by then. It's a mod for the v12 slimline PS2 that allows for a HDD to be connected through IDE.
Anyway, USB 1.1 is still capable of 1x DVD reading so I can't see why there would be skipping. Does this happen on all of your games?

What you need is four things.
1 Old Style PS2 that's not Japanese.
2 PS2 Ethernet adaptor. Good look in finding one. I had to pay over the odds on Ebay for mine. Worth every penny.
3 Maxtor HDD. Closest fit to the original sony drive, which Maxtor make also.
4 Hard Drive Advance.
You don't need a chip. It doesn't matter if your laser is on it's way out either. You'll only use it for HDA.
That's my setup above. Not all games will work mind you. I can direct you to a list which shows you which do and which don't.
The downside to that method is having to pull the drive out to put software on it.
Use PS2 Hard drive handiness. Easy and quicker than using a disk swap method.

I use also winhiip to transfer my games. I just connect the HDD to my external hdd case and transfer, I use a seagate barracuda 80 GB with no problems. And yes this is the best way to play backups with out using a modchip.

No thats the upside, the downside is waiting half an hour for the ps2 to copy it. While on the pc it just takes minutes.
