This is THE movie. I don't know why this is flying almost under the radar of everyone. Because it's not some typical Hollywood bullshit?
It's intense, good acting and camerawork.
Yeah, it's a pretty good movie, it's more mainstream than Incendies or Polytechnique were (some of Villenueve's other work). It's comparable to Prisoners in that sense, but everything is.. just better, the only problem I have with this movie is that Emily Blunt's acting is all over the place for me. I didn't enjoy it, however most of the people I know said she was good.
Toro was phenomenal though.
Oh and by everything else, I literally mean everything, the soundtrack, camerawork, the story is more gripping.. just everything, it missed Paul Dano though.
that's kind of the point though
she's the audience who gets taken for a ride on the dark side
i would like to see an hbo series on this kind of stuff
maybe true detective season 3?
Why do trained cops always puke when they see a dead body? That opening scene had like 3 or 4 guys in a row vomiting.
Movie wasn't bad, but I don't onderstand the raving reviews. I really hated Emily Blunt's character. Nice soundtrack though.
There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.
Truly gone fishing.

Have you ever been in a place with even similar conditions or are you a coroner/i've-seen-many-bodies-on-tv-it's-cool type of guy?
It isn't just the sight, it's also the smell. And of course, it's a normal reaction to hideous things.
But if you really are that numb, then I'm sorry for you.
I know it's the smell. And they did it to show how 'human' and 'uncorrupted' they are, in comparison to the other characters that appear later on.
But it's such a cliché to see these days, and seeing 3 trained cops in a row next to each other vomiting, I felt it was a bit out of place.
(especially because it happened after they found just the 2 first bodies, not the rest of 'em)
Yeah, Traffic is a lot better, but this one was a pretty damn solid movie (I'd rate it 8/10). But in the end, I didn't feel that connection with the characters, as I had with Traffic (in particular Del Toro's character, in Traffic). The one character you're supposed to symphatize with is utterly annoying , that never helps
This was a giant disappointment. Blunt's character was useless as people above me have mentioned. Probably intentional, to show that some people just end up being pawns in the bigger game etc., but in the end it made for a boring and frustrating movie. Showing that Mexican cop's life at home in an attempt to elicit emotion felt really cheap and forced. The scenes of people walking/riding to their next objective, while beautifully shot, last so long that instead of building suspense they end up outstaying their welcome. Del Toro was the best part of the movie.
