Ubisoft has announced Rainbow Six: Siege is in development at Ubisoft Montreal, coming in 2015 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
It's all being built within Ubisoft's proprietary engines Anvil Next and RealBlast handling the action and procedural destruction.
“We rebooted the game, and we are explaining why we did that,” said Alexandre Remy, brand director at Ubisoft. “This is 100 percent new and different. Patriots is not in development anymore. But hopefully this will get you more excited. We believe it was a good decision.”
“For Rainbow Six, we wanted to make something on next-generation consoles,” Remy said. “We decided to reboot the whole franchise.”
The footage shown during the E3 2014 press conference demonstrated an early multiplayer match with one team attempting to rescue a hostage from the opposing forces. Environmental destruction plays a key role in how matches unfold, and it's possible to blast through walls and doors get to your objectives.
- The game is about “siege combat.”
- a single-player/co-op story where the breach operations get progressively more difficult.
- multiplayer combat where one side plays the terrorists, who build up their defenses, and the other side plays the counter-terrorist team.
Multiplayer:
The preparation seamlessly melts into the beginning of combat as the combatants discover each other, said Alexandre Remy, brand director at Ubisoft. The multiplayer combat consists of five terrorists versus five counter-terrorist soldiers. Either side can win when all enemy players are eliminated. The counter-terrorists, however, can score extra points by saving hostages.
Once the shooting starts, a match is over in about three minutes. Once one of the characters is killed, there is no respawning. You’re dead for the whole round. Once you die, you don’t have to sit out the match entirely. For instance, if you launch drones into the sky, you can essentially become a drone once you’ve been shot. You can see what’s happening in the battle and report back to the rest of the team what is happening. A multiplayer round lasts a total of 18 minutes, with each side fighting three rounds of defense and three rounds of attack.
Defenders can set up barricades, reinforce the walls, place traps, and set up bombs. The attackers can analyze the defenses and figure out ways to get around them.

The whole game is about “siege combat.” It has a single-player story where the breach operations get progressively more difficult. And it has multiplayer combat where one side plays the terrorists, who build up their defenses, and the other side plays the counter-terrorist team. During a preparation phase, each side tries to predict what the other will do and bolster their defenses or attack plan.
rainbow six was dead since R6:letdown
this is stupid generic shooter but the total destruction is pretty awesome
this is what i've wanted in a game since forever
red faction came out 13 years ago
what fucking took you so long, industry?
it's possible to blast through walls and doors get to your objectives.
Was this their selling point?
I can only watch tid bits without audio at work.
It seemed really essential. Its apparent that everyone who plays will need to expect a wall or ceiling to suddenly be blasted out. They spent like 5 demo charges in the mock-up multiplayer match we saw. A wall? Just blow a hole through it. Need to get to the floor below you? Blow a hole through it and drop down.

They're getting closer to what I wanted though. It is still way too chaotic. It seems like regardless how you plan this, it'll turn into a chaotic bloodbath.
Also the rounds being so short in time kind of forces the issue on the players, you won't see stalemates and long firefights in this because I guess if the police can't do their biz swiftly they'll lose because the time is up.

It's hard to be stealthy when your options are
1. use explosives to blow huge hole in wall
or
2. use explosives to blow huge hole in window
The way they let the bad guys barricade doors, it looks like going loud is going to highly encouraged. And possibly how the game is designed.
Yes, its definitely how they want the game to play. Its not how I want every map to play out though but hey. It'd be great if on some maps you couldn't just c4 your way into every room or if on some maps you -had- to take the enemies down in a non-lethal way etc. Its too early to say anything about what variation there is of course, and what we did see was pretty cool.
The "planning" was shallow enough to work with strangers online for example. It seemed like: yes we'll just enter from different sides and go from there.
That gameplay was fucking epic!!! It looked like a more action packed(+preplanning stage) swat 4! and omg DAT house deformation damage!! Think its time to upgrade ye olde gpu when this releases
What the hell you mean with MP only? You mean as VERSUS only? Dude if thats true this is total bullcrap! I loved and I still play Terr Hunt on RS and V2 with my friends, why they removed such a great mode is beyond me Failsoft...
It isn't MP only. It has a singleplayer campaign (or rather, it WILL have one). You'll also be able to play that campaign in co-op with friends instead of AI team mates.
The meat of the game though seems focused on versus modes, like the hostage rescue mode we saw a mock-up of.
My impression is that this game will only be about those barricaded suspects type scenarios where the Kill on sight order has been given.
Remember Rainbow is not SWAT. Rainbow Six is not about saving the lives of enemies as well as civilians. Rainbow Six is a kill squad by comparison.
To boil it down for myself: This is basically Counter-strike with a procedural destruction engine.
