It's really outrageous.

CBS sure are trying their hardest to get rid of all the original fans. Discovery was a travesty and instead of trying to encourage the fandom to keep interest in their crappy series alive, they stamp it out, the utter morons.

Yeah just put in that women from Discovery. Since Discovery is a joke in and by itself, that should be enough Laughing

The reason (at least one of the reasons) copyright laws become harsher and harsher all the time is because the entertainment industry simply can't keep up with how fast technology and society is changing. In order to protect their stale business practices they try to use force (enforcing and lobbying for more stringent copyright laws) against consumers. This leads to backlashes since a certain amount of people who are somewhat aware of these practices tend to feel very low loyalty to big biz and would rather pirate than give money to these companies. It's a double edged sword in some ways but I'm too tired to go any further with that.

Copyright has been out of control for a long time... And I absolutely argue that the aggressive anti-progress practices of certain enforcers of copyright actually only serves to limit the potential profit of the industry they work for.

Cinemas are a perfect example for me. I and my friends only go to the cinema once or twice a year (basically only movies we've really looked forward to). The reasons are simply that it's more convenient and better to watch it at home where we can pause and don't have to drive down, park, pay parking fee, go wait for the movie to start and then drive home again.

But if we could pay the current cinema price or even possibly more to stream it legally at home or simply just buy a legal digital download copy then we definitely would be paying more money than we currently are doing. I don't buy blurays, I don't want them cluttering my home. I prefer having it on my HDD.

I understand that this kind of solution is not as simple as I make it seem but still. This is 2018 (soon 2019) and we're still being forced to go to a shitty crowded cinema if we wish to see a movie at release date. It's time for them to wake up and figure out a legal way for the modern audience to consume their entertainment. Copyright in many ways is currently just a fucking excuse to force your audience to do as you please rather than the opposite, which is to serve your audience the way your audience wants to be served.

I'm all for copyright in the sense of protecting the rights of the person/company who created the copyrighted object from others trying to benefit from their product... But not the rest. Piracy is largely a service problem and until these dinosaurs start evolving, piracy will just continue doing its thing.

This, very much this.
Sad part is that I thought it would all have been a bit looser by now seeing my gen is getting old... but nope.
