Hi.. I am in US for a month and I am using netflix here and one thing thats shaking me is the library and its essence. New content pushed every week and there are a lot of shows that are only restricted to US region only.

Sadly, I am heading back to UK and it will kill my netflix experience there. Stale content and only originals are worth watching. Any recommendations other than Netflix?

I might just quit it..

I am very much bored of it now.. until and unless I find a very legit way of changing regions which I suppose is impossible without using a vpn like netflix vpn claims

Why? Because we have antiquated dinosaurs ruling over us with outdated legal frameworks. Not that younger people would make a change, by the time they are in a position they will be the same old greed mongrels with dollars in their eyes. Razz Crying or Very sad Razz

because copyright is regional and lasts ~100 years, because of US lobbyists and corporate greed Rolling Eyes

also HBO made movies are limited to HBO Online as Netflix made movies are limited to Netflix Online only and so on..

If you have a good VPN service that will alleviate the problem.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Like what? Capitalist movies?

A lot of countries are paying the same as US for less than half the content.

It's why I cancelled my Netflix subscription a few weeks ago. They're removing stuff on the sly but seem to only add shit while the price went up with 30% in just a year or three.

I use VPN to access US content and that too, has become quite shit. You have the typical classics everyone has already seen and then tons of shitty movies. There's very few "hidden gems" or movies that are lesser known but still good to watch. It's not going to get any better, either. The greedy cunts want to split the streaming services even more - you'll end up paying the same for less or paying a lot more for the same spread over different services.

As I see it, people are going to return to pirating - if you have to pay that much without owning anything in the end, people just won't bother.

Why the fuck would you pay for a service that artificially blocks some of its content in one country while being available in another?

Just torrent it.

Or pay even more for a VPN service, that will reduce the quality of what you see and make it much more inconvenient, one of the reasons you went to pay for the service in the first place? Laughing

Just torrent it.

Just wanted to buy a music cd in like forever. Behind an amazon prime exclusivity wall. I was just confused at the interface with the missing 'add to basket' button, aimlessly scanning the page for a while Laughing

I don't even.

I use Netflix for a couple of months, it's been great. Watch two movies and you get your money's worth. I think it's a great service.

For €11 I need to watch 11 movies to get my money worth. That's how much it cost to rent a movie here before the stores shut down and that's what you're doing - renting. At least in rental stores, you had a good amount of movies to pick from including recent releases. I can't even find 3-4 movies to watch let alone 11. Series is better but movies? Hell no it's not worth it for those.

Buying a movie costs around €5 but at least you then own the movie whereas on Netflix, movies disappear all the time.

I wasn't being literal. I also never rented a movie for 1 euro here in the Netherlands.

I have netflix and two people use the account (so its 5,5 euro per person) which i think its fine. My gf and my mother use it and watch it frequently so i guess it worth it.

I wouldn't have it since i just download what i want and i don't watch that many movies/shows.

UK Netflix is pretty shit. It’s even worse for kids shows: for example Blaze - used to have 2 of 4 seasons, they recently secretly dropped it to just one season.

I’ve (re) started downloading everything I need and I’m considering investing in a Plex subscription and a faster upload speed on my home ISP...

Really? If you got a "klantenkaart" here, most places asked €1 or maybe €1,5 tops, sometimes with the exception of brand new movies within the first month after release. We used to rent 3 movies for €3 every Friday evening.

But anyway - with DVDs and Bluray costing €5 for new movies and being next to nothing second hand, do you really want to pay for a service that

a) streams at 720p most of the time despite touting HD or 4K (if you pay for the latter)
b) has a decreasing amount of stuff to watch
c) lets you own squat in the end
d) keeps increasing its prices each year
e) has huge gaps in its library in certain genres or time periods. Very little 70's movies for example.
f) causes your monthly download volume to skyrocket (important for Belgians since we still got limits here)
g) relies on a good Internet connection for good image quality

As it is, Netflix is more a convenience than a platform worth paying for in most of Europe. There's almost no local content either - there used to be some, but it disappeared pretty quickly. Now you got a few stand ups and that's it. Heck, subtitles are often not in order, either for Belgium, with only French speech or subtitles - some stuff even got dubbed in French without the original English. It's a shambles.

6 years ago I gave away my entire DVD collection to my brother and father but I'm contemplating either asking it back, or converting it so I can add it to Plex. Plex is really good and I was able to have a lifetime premium account for not much money.

I went and got me a NAS for my shows/movies.

I got spotify as the only stream thing atm and it annoys the fuck out of me. It is a crap-shoot on what is available and things disappear. Even thinking of going back local on my music collection.

It's funny because the things I watch on Netflix are pretty much British shows. With Rake being the exception.

I was pretty happy to find The Inbetweeners on there. Rewatching it after almost 10 years and it's still as funny as before. Peep Show as well.

Yeah I don't really Netflix much, I'm only subscribed for my parents and brother.

Dude, what about people who have a smartTV (or a modern console connected) and they want to run the Netflix app and watch movies and shows?

They are supposed to torrent everything and wait for it to finish, then stream it to the TV from their PC or whatever? They want to literally sit on their couch and put on a TV show to play.

Of course I would do that, Cuckflix will never see a dime from me. But not the general computer-illiterate public or people who don't care to google a bit.
