I got 2 EXE files on my desktop. One of them is "Internet Explorer 6 Installation file" and the other is "SoundPak5.exe"

The Files Are not Viruses, but I think they are Incomplete downloads.

When I hit delete or try to move them it says File is in use and cannot be deleted

I tried booting in Safe Mode and deleting them but it still didnt work Sad

Is there any software that can force a delete??

Maybe if you click on the programs so they'll be active and then press: Ctrl, Alt and Del, and then you can start with "soundpak5.exe" by right clicking on it, and press "go to process" and when you are at the process, right click on it and press "close process". And then you do the same with the "Internet Explorer 6 Installation file"! Hope that helped! I don't the english language on my computer so the menus is different! Happy to help!

You can use ERD or CIA Commander etc or you can just boot to the recovery console and delete the files.

go back to classic DOS mode. works 100% of the time...

Create a Win98 boot disk and boot into dos through that and use the appropiate commands like... cd <directory where it is> ... DEL filename.exe

why waste time trying to fool around with windows? Smile

P.s. www.bootdisk.com

For next time, this is really efficient. Adds options to the context menu.

MoveOnBoot allows you to copy, move or delete files on the next system boot. This comes in very handy, if you need to replace or delete files which are locked by other applications, loaded into memory or cannot be changed until next system boot. You could manually enter a line to the wininit files, but using MoveOnBoot is much simpler, since the program can be integrated into shell - it creates the "Copy/Move/Delete on boot" context menu item.

Dont install applications/reboot in safe mode to delete these files. I think this is a bug in the explorer.exe 's file handling.

To delete the file:

Hit CTRL+ALT+DELETE, go to the PROCESS TAB, teminate 'explorer.exe'.

Start a CMD prompt (APPLICATION tab, NEW TASK, type in 'CMD' then ENTER)

In the command prompt go into the dirctory where you cant delete your file (for your desktop its: C:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\Desktop) and delete the file (del <FILE>).

In the Task Manager select the APPLICATIONS tab, click NEW TASK, enter 'explorer' then ENTER.

That is all Smile
