I keep getting an error when I try to play Maven releases with Windows Media Player. It says the video is corrupt, which it is not because I've checked the CRCs. Don't tell me to update my media player or any drivers because I'm not a fool; I always have the latest. Do these releases need a decoder like xvid, 3vix, or divx?

Only ones that I've tried and that don't work are:
Alien VS Predator
Collateral
The Bourne Supremacy

Why does WMP9 need a codec for SVCD...

Well, essentially MOST SVCD content has been encoded as MPEG2. And there is the problem... Windows Media Player does not have MPEG2 support built in due to licensing fee's. Every vendor who releases an MPEG2 compatible player, has to pay a small "royalty" fee for each unit sold.

As you know Windows Media Player 9 is a FREE download so there is no codec SVCD support!

BUT.....

Windows Media Player 9 does work with SVCD if a suitable MPEG2 codec has been installed on the computer.

I found this on www-updatexp-com.

God damn microsoft!

VLC here although power DVD is prolly the best option, since vlc can have probs with pausing and sound overlapping when u resume or the picture just not moving.
