My system:
DFi LanParty nF4 SLI-DR
AMD 4000 64 San Diego
2x Matrox 300gb 1Mb Cache
2gb Corsair ram
Phillips dual layer DVD writer
Now I've tried putting Windows XP on numerous times but I get an error which seems to be different all the time. The main error is IRQ less or not equal but I also get other blue screen errors too. I'm pretty sure I'm getting something wrong on the Bios as it's such a complex beast.
Can anyone give me some tips. Would it be better to go for a more simple board like the MSI Neo board?
I'm not into overclocking so I'm not up to speed on all the options on the mobo.

can you give a more specific description what the IRQ is saying or what the BSOD is giving you.
Most of the times its a driver issue.
Could be bad vga card.
try booting with different config. exmpl.
1 bank of memory or try other vga card

make sure you have the apic mode in the bios enabled before installing windows, also check fot the timing of your ram in the bios, set the ram to conservative values and try to install windows with only 1gb of memory

Well the thing is is that the memory is twinmos 2 gb of 1gb matched pairs. I've tried each stick in individually and the system won't even get to the bios. The same result is when I try the cheap memory from my own system.
I've had a few different errors. The most common one is IRQ not less or equal.

I'm using a Tagan 480 watt. I've tried taking out a stick. The system wouldn't even get to the bios when I tried. Same result when I used 2 sticks from my other system.

Don't install anything, instead try to boot any Live Systems like Knoppix or ERD Commander

Have you installed the mobo drivers? The cpu drivers? the S-ata drivers?
Try installing the systemwith as little hardware as possible, and also try with a different gfx-card!

Okay I've sorted the problem so far.
It was an incompatible bios with my corsair memory. Flashing to a newer bios and upping the dram voltage from 2.6 to 2.8 sorted that.
Now I've tried installing winxp. No luck as of yet. I can't find my xp disk so I've tried installing the corprate edition. That was useless. Horrid software! So I tried putting on win 98 then using a winxp upgrade disk. BSOD with unmountable boot error.
I'm now getting winxp with sp1 incl. Slow as hell though.

Hello, Are the errors when windows is copying files to you hard drive or the following installation, the best thing to do is eliminate all just leave the basics ie: cpu, ram ,video card, of course you need your hdd and your cd-rom hehe, and also are you booting from the cd or boot disk, and is it a retail copy of windows...good luck

I am getting win xp corprate ed.
Seems to copy fine. Yeah booting from the cd. I've found out that the nv chipset isn't compatible with 98. So once I get win xp pro I'll be set.
Vinnie, is the sound better by much with your audigy than compared with 8 channel ac97?

It worked for about 4 hrs and then everything died on me again, so this time i returned the mobo, cpu and mems!

Did the company collect them or was it a local shop?
I've got a parcel company picking mine up tommorow.
They said between a week and nine days. I've not even been able to use my x850 yet

I don't get it, why do you guys and gals buy memory from companies like Corsair, Kingston, TwinMos etc. These companies don't even manufacturer the ic's themselves, they buy it from the majors like Samsung, Infineon, Elpida. And not only that, they sell ram wich is way out of Jedec standards, and why do you think Jedec wont make these fast timings or speeds standard? Because you can't run them stable on a broad basis, and that's whats most important for me: stability. the only ram i buy is from Samsung, and it's the offical ram wich follows Jedec standards, i never had any ram troubles since i buy from them, and thats for the last seven years
Anyways good luck with your systems, Jenni and ollax

I've been building pc's for years. Never had a problem with getting winxp on. The mobo isn't 100% compatible with the memory. So it's going back.
