Well I’ve probably played for about 10 hours and I have mixed feelings.
The characters are awful, the dialogue, which despite being mostly optional and of which there is a lot, is awful, the story is a disappointment, the loot is crappy and really makes me appreciate the quality of the loot in Destiny. And why the fuck is every mission multiplayer only?! It’s far less of a solo experience than what I expected. It makes Destiny look like a completely single player game! However I seriously hate the fact that the game teleports me within like 20 seconds if I don’t keep up with other players during missions.
Edit: Ok apparently I just found out that there are Privacy settings that I can change to play missions solo. This is a big plus. Unless it turns out to be too difficult lol.
Load times have been improved but they’re still a pain. I like the free play mode which does allow time to explore at my own pace as the world is pretty massive and really quite seamless so jetpacking around is really a lot of fun.
I also found the Destiny style strike missions known as ‘Strongholds’ to be enjoyable and particularly challenging. They are more like raids with matchmaking so that’s pretty cool but it’s a shame there are only 3 of them so far.
Visually the game is impressive and probably the best thing about it. I can imagine the base consoles struggle with this one and it really makes my Pro fan spin.
I think it will get better over time but for the moment I will keep playing it at least until
The Division 2 lol.
Haha as likely as that might seem and as funny as that might be I haven't played Anthem for about 3 months now but I'm tempted to revisit the games for a few hours.
Details on Anthem Next are hazy, but among other things, the game’s developers plan to overhaul the loot, the quests, the social aspects of the game, the difficulty, the progression system, and the world map. One person on the project said they’re planning to change the game’s entire structure. Right now, the entire world of Anthem is set on a single contiguous map; separating the map into segments would allow developers to tweak and play around with those segments without worrying that they might create bugs and glitches all across the world. “We’re also looking at breaking up the need to go back to [Fort Tarsis] after every mission,” said the person, “and what a mission technically is. That was always a weird disconnect. [We’re] trying to integrate the disparate parts of the game together.”
