Completely dumb when it comes to these things.

Got an apple laptop here that connects fine, gets IP and dns info fine but internet just doesnt work, says its taking too long to respond.
Tried custom DNS but didnt help either.

Open to suggestions.

Does ping respond? Try pinging google to see if you get a response in time. Check the proxy settings in system preferences.

Off Topic: Having had a Macbook Air 11“ for 6 years (and still resold it because it was still running) and now having a Macbook Air 13“(2015) bought in 2016 for 875€ that runs like new plus my wife still using a Macbook White from 2010 that she still uses every day tells me they are/were not so much shit as many people believe.

On Topic: No idea what the issue is. But you should try resetting Network Settings.

Like here: https://www.wikihow.com/Reset-Network-Settings-on-PC-or-Mac#macOS_sub

Or create a new user and see if it works there. If it does, migrate all the files to it and delete the old user.

Or: Give us a remote connection so we can investigate. Everything Went Better Than Expected

Tried both but neither did anything to help unfortunately.

Ok, then try smc reset.

http://osxdaily.com/2019/01/14/how-reset-smc-macbook-air-pro-2018-later/

If that doesnt work, I'm out of options.

edit: But it must be OS related, since you had it work. You could try downloading the latest Combo update here:

https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1970?locale=de_LU

Transfer it via USB and update the system? (That is if you arent running the latest version of High Sierra already)

No proxy settings, I tried the resets earlier already with no luck.

How the fuck you download the update from their website? This thing is running Mojave.

I still had High Sierry in mind.

So weird... Safemode it works in, I restart and it worked in normal mode again now, that is until I plugged in the USB dock, doesnt work again now. Unplug it, nope. Plugged charger on right side of laptop where the dock was, bam, broken again.

Something fishy with thw thunderbolts on the right side of laptop.

Edit: still not 100% sure now, worked briefly with only charger on left side but broke again.

Edit2 rebooted with dock and charger on left side, works again now...

Edit3 seems to only work for like a minute after restart now.

Ok typing this on the shitbook now, seems to be working.

Freedome was the cause, there is a setting in it that says "Break internet if freedome fails to connect".
Untick that and works again now.
