Yet do the same thing from the original PoP to SoT and you have amazing progress - not just in terms of visuals, but the mechanics that came from that game.

Well its not a Prince of Persia game, then I thought that of the tomb-raider 3d versions as well. Prince of Persia was a skill-based movement platformer with time-limit, that was the core definition of the gameplay. Not to say a 3d counterpart can't work, just that survival and movement were the primary gameplay elements, yes it had combat which was simple and more tactical block vs. attack. Rather than a global timer which is too hard for modern gamer, you can have forgiving level times or the bronze, silver, gold you can't lose mechanic.
This is like 10000x other platformers with rap music called Prince of Persia. The thing is that if they actually did an accurate old-school PoP and focussed on the core gameplay mechanics where you merely innovate on combat but keep it tactical, it would probably be a unique and successful game.
it looks ok as a 2d game, there also are 2 games like this on android, i like this kind of stuff, but it also looks sad for what this franchise has become
If they made a game more in style with the original one, say less cartoonish, slower, stealthy, it probably still be a bad game but perhaps people would buy it for nostalgia sake.
