I think Gauntlet paved the way for those four player co-op player experiences. Man, wasted a bunch of quarters with friends on those games. I used to tell my kids how much fun those days were. Just taking a $20 from mowing lawns and spending Friday night at the local indoor putting green-arcade place in town or the arcade joint at the mall, and blowing it all on pizza, Dr. Pepper and games like this, Galaga, Gauntlet, NARC (think that may have been the first bloody dismemberment video game), and others and just having a blast. And I don't remember my father ever complaining unlike my music choices back in the 80s because he really liked some video games like Ms. Pac Man. lol.
I hope they have an option for high res sprites. If I wanted a low res pixel fest, I could just play the original arcade ROMs on MAME.
It's almost as saying you wish you could simply switch to 3D in a 2D game, its very different styles of graphics with a very different approach, requires totally different artists too often. So no, obviously not. But this is not "low-res" at all, especially in comparison to old arcade games.
would be nice if we got it some time this decade. Not like it's some extreme hard engine with insane gfx to make. They've been teasing us what looked like was done over a year ago now.
It's a shame they went with the pixelated graphics, instead of something like the 90s cartoon, which is totally possible. They recreated the opening scene in-engine, and it was great, but then gameplay is in pixelated shitty graphics.

They should have used the Streets of Rage 4 style graphics. Instead, they took the unlockable pixel art effect and used that as the basis of the art design.
Yeah bit disappointed about it too, I somehow had myself convinced we could switch in-between a modern and pixel art style considering the time this took to get released
Nevertheless, it's going to be some good ol' arcade co-op fun

Pretty fun so far. Very well done. Great soundtrack.. love the pixel graphics personally. Too smooth and you run the risk of looking like a flash game from newgrounds.com
Only complaint is it's hard to judge depth at times, like in the surfboard levels especially airborne.
Story mode is kind of lame as well, with your health getting upgrades as you level up.
Game is kind of a mess. For a bunch of cocky assholes who said they wouldn't release the game because they were perfectionists, they sure fucking missed the mark.
Hit boxes are fucking and all over the place. Common move in the old games was to counter jump kick the clan, you'd jump kick right after them and you'd hit them out ofthe air. In this, you take the hit no matter what. On moving vehicles if you aim for their head to knock them off, you take the hit. I was standing on a platform with an enemy on the tracks below me. I was swinging and was hitting him every time even though my weapon animation wasn't even touching him. Skateboard level brought back those flying clan dudes in those little drones and even if you line up your shadow perfectly when you go to jump kick them, you miss it most of the time.
The skateboard level was just fucking awful. Super fucking sluggish movement. The game in both on the feet and skateboard has a bunch of delays. Attack? gotta wait a half second or more to be able to jump. Dodge? Can't hit after you complete the dodge or jump, which makes the faster paced moving of the skateboard level hard as fuck.
Tutorial I'm sure was put in by the asshole who works at UBIsoft that makes you watch their stupid fucking intro every time you start the game up. Any time you choose to play, you're taken to the tutorial first. You can skip it, but why in the ever loving fuck does someone who's already played hours have to fucking go through it every time you got to play?
Game doesn't offer NATIVE gamepad support, it relies on steam to do it for them. Which I have it disabled on steam because steam link through my shield fucking hates having it turned on for whatever reason. So I have to enable and disable it depending on where I wanna play it.
Can't tell you how many times clan dudes throw their shirken spread and aren't even on the screen when they throw them so you're constantly taking hits from shit you can't see or notice when you have a screen full of enemies.
Don't get me wrong, it's fun and nostalgic as fuck, but no one on that team fucking tested this shit, played the original arcade games or gave the game to someone who knows what to test for.
They also offer crossplay between steam and gamepass, but for some reason there's a handshake in the middle that requires EPIC.
To quote one of the reviews how it works
"Have fun playing crossplay with your Xbox friends.. after you've linked an Epic store account, and linked your Xbox account to your Epic store account, and added your friend's Epic store account as your Epic store friend. Then invite your Epic store friend to your game, and THEN you can play with your other Steam friends all together."
SpykeZ, hope you left a review on steam if you purchased it.. constructive criticism is always good.
Yup, made the mistake of also making a post about it in the forum, forgot what a memetard fueld shit hole steam forums are. Just every posting the stupid salt emoticon saying dumb shit like "ya the original games had problems like this too"......and 30 years later we can't make that better? High IQ there boys.
Just played MP for like an hour. It was absolute chaos and whoever the fuck designed it needs a sack tap. You can't tell where you're at, who you are attacking, who's hitting you. Every attack and special has this flashy graphic pop up so you get more than 2 people it's just bullshit stacked on top of each other. They allow dead body juggling so it's just the same dead bodys flying all over the screen multiple times for no reason instead of just landing and exploding.
It's good for 2 people and no more than that unless you just want brainless button mashing. There's no point in earning your specials. You can just do a 2 second taunt that gives you full special boost bar. Which means.....in MP with 4 people...everyone spamming their big specials...fucking christ, screen has so many colors overriding each other it looks like a unicorn puked on my screen.
I am having more fun with it though now that I know what the shortcoming are, what's broken and how to get around it to make it work.
Overall, I'll get my money out of it no problem. I've a lot more for even worse experience. I mean....I actually paid for Ark once upon a time.
I played local 3-player coop and yeah, it can get messy very often.
Generally, it does feel like it needs another pass of QA treatment. Pixel graphics combined with bright colors feels tiring on a TV, I'll continue playing on a regular monitor.
Good game, but currently not worth full price IMO.
Yeah i can see how the taunt basically breaks the game. I would take it out completely, or at least in arcade mode which is supposed to be the challenging mode.
