Hello,

I am currently gathering a present for a friend, who is into board games.

So far the pot is:
Star Wars - Outer Rim
Doom - The Board Game
Fallout - Board Game

but recently it has come to my attention, that he is playing this different type? of strategy board game:
Fantasy Battles: The 9th Age

can someone give me ideas for similar (grand strategy) games to gift to him
or is there any additional merchandise for this particular game, that can be gifted?

thank you

It's hard to find people to play with. It's either noone or a group who gathers once a week and constantly nags about playing inbetween as well. Well, that's my experience Sad

[EDIT} Not all here are grand startegy.

If you want strategy something from Eric Lang: Blood Rage or Rising Sun. Forbidden Stars if he is into SciFi and Warhammer.

Maybe Arcadia Quest for some lighthearted dungeon crawling.

GoT boardgame for grand strategy (with expansion)

https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/103343/game-thrones-board-game-second-edition
https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgameexpansion/257496/game-thrones-board-game-second-edition-mother-drag

Scythe is IMO good but people tend to dislike it.

Root if he hates his friends or you hate them (due to amount of rules to learn and revisions to the rules).

Clank! (+ expansions) because awesome.

And if you have lots of money:

https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/215341/thunderstone-quest
https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/222514/batman-gotham-city-chronicles
https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/167355/nemesis

Fallout is kind of underdeveloped.

Yeah. We've lately been playing Uno only. I guess anything else is too complex and "time consuming" Okay

After a couple of beers and vodka, only Uno and Kniffel are comprehensible.

Aren't most of these suggestions a bit too mainstream for a serious board player.

I haven't played anything for a decade or two so can't suggest anything. The only thing I see about board games these days is: Ars Technica's boardgame buyer's guide (google it) and wouldn't even know if its decent advice (it is less about franchise names though).

Thank you very much.

While most of the games you mention are in pre-order or sold-out state here, I managed to grab the LoTR one.
