The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.
I tried to like the game, since the art/graphics were so nice. Also the addition of a big codex book that you can browse in game was really cool.
But:
-Almost zero cinematics were created by Studio Ghibli, its just there for promotion, nothing more.
-Combat system was really clunky, no matter which familiar you upgrade it doesnt help you in combat.
-Other cinematics were created with zero effort. Almost no Voiceovers in those cinematics and when something happens that would need several other scenery/animation the game just "blinks" and the characters assume "ok we done that".
-And the lamplight guy during the previews (when the game was still in development) was sooo cute, but once I heard the voice of it, I had a very big - feeling towards it.
I tried so hard to like it, but everytime I've fired up the game I felt more like a dissapointment.
Since years have passed, I will surely give the Remaster a go, and hopefully it can change my mind.
Liked it a lot actually i wanted to replay it down the road in rpcs3 but i might as well just wait for the remaster now last i checked there where still a few annoying random crashes running the game in vulkan.
Join Oliver on a life-changing quest in the breathtaking world of Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch Remastered, coming to PS4 and PC on 20 September with beautiful visual enhancements.
Game uses Steam controller api so getting a gamepad to work is a clusterfuck as always.
Can't one just x360ce it?
Nah x360ce is just an xinput emulator and there is no controller support in the game itself since it uses steams api for it. X360ce can't help since it requires xinput support to be present, same story if you have an xbone pad or any xinput compatible controller. So unless you use GLR or a steam emu with controller support you are SOL.
did they fix the "annoyances" of the original version? (cant quite remember what it was, only read about it and decided it wasn't for me... combat maybe? )
Combat's much better.. Atleast ya not playing with familiars... Just "Auto partners" wich saves ya worries

Should I played it before the earlier release? It's before Ni No Kuni II?
sar·casm | \ ˈsär-ˌka-zəm \
1: a sharp and often satirical or ironic utterance designed to cut or give pain
2a: a mode of satirical wit depending for its effect on bitter, caustic, and often ironic language that is usually directed against an individual
b: the use or language of sarcasm
WOTWW is the first game and should be played first (Although it can be a bit slow). The 2nd one might make a few references "but that's it". Different protagonists etc. 2nd one has a moment where "The waiting simulator" comes in action and can get BOOOOOOOORING unless you leave the PC/Console on for hours while doing other stuff.. Else it won't count (It's upgrading certain things to progress on the game. Colour me surprised..)
Then there's the movie wich seems to be set after the 1st game since it has a clear reference to it "outta nowhere".
Though if i had to pick i'd say the 2nd's worth..Less confusing
