Everyone seems to be playing this. Looks a lot of fun but it's in early access. So is it worth playing it now or the game is still in a very early stage? Don't want to get burned out before the game even comes out.
Thanks.
The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.
Well .. it's look complete more or less for survival mode, campaign is what is currently missing and still needs to be done. And some new units will be added later too most probably.
Its pretty good and addictive, its FUCKING INSANELY HARD tho. hooooly shittt. ive played over 40 games with all my might feeling confident aaaaaaand last wave kills me.
Yep, this game is ruthless, one small mistake and you get raped by zombies.
Yyyyeah... Sometimes they rape you even when you DON'T make any mistakes.
This happened to me last night.
I was doing alright, had my tech developed into "tier 3", some 15 veteran rangers at hand to clear out the map and started to spam some snipers. Then - a wave incoming. It was still day 27 and it was only the 3rd wave, so I was pretty confident I could take it without losses. After all, I had just built up a wall to the west (and had the zombies pay for it).
So after a while - they came... And the fuckers didn't stop at anything
Skip to the 1:30 mark if you don't care about placing ballistas
Oh, and that single ranger on patrol along that wall - her patrol route should've been a hint that there's something off over there... At 2:43 I even paused the game to look for a gap. None were found
The campaign has 50 missions, which total 40-60 hours of play. Obviously the permadeath system won’t apply to the whole campaign. It’d be tragic to have to start again after playing for 40 hours!
During the campaign, the permadeath system works as usual. You can exit the game and continue the same mission when you want, but you can’t reload an old game. If you fail the mission you’ll return to the campaign map and decide whether to start the same mission again or start a different one to gain some improvements by developing the research tree.
But be aware that this doesn’t mean that you can repeat the mission over and over again without consequence...
The campaign score, which will be equal to the sum of the scores of all completed missions, will be displayed in the campaign dashboard. Each mission has a maximum score based on the chosen difficulty chosen, and that you will earn when you successfully complete the mission. Watch out because each time you fail a mission, 10% of that score will be permanently deducted until you reach a minimum of 10% of the original score. By doing this, we’ll reward you for finishing each mission with the least possible attempts, and we’ll avoid metagaming situations like, “I start the mission and explore everything and with that information I start the mission again.”

We’re 100% focused on finishing the campaign so it can be released as soon as possible. If all goes according to plan, that will be June 2019. The gameplay will unquestionably be finished by then, as it’s almost at 75% right now, but other elements like the video cinematic, voices, translations, or other stuff may take us longer than expected.
Therefore, we’ve decided not to add new content to the survival mode until the full game with the campaign is released. Working on the campaign modifies everything in the game, while updating new content for the survival uses a lot the development resources, and we firmly believe that most players prefer to have the campaign sooner than having an updated Survival but with a more delayed Campaign.
Having said that, the exciting news is that with the big launch of the campaign, the survival mode will be updated with two more themes and features like new units and structures. If will be finally the 1.0 version!
At last, They Are Billions reaches version 1.0. We are leaving Early Access and the great Campaign, The New Empire, will be available for all players!!
I've been looking forward to the campaign as survival mode alone is not that interresting to me. I hope there will be a isodemo release soon to try it out.
I've read that this mostly plays like a pure puzzle game (more than a standard RTS), you must figure out the one way that works or you'll die, there's no flexibility. That sounds very boring and limiting, but i can see how its convenient to do it like that for an indie game instead of balancing it for an almost endless number of scenarios, probably very difficult and time consuming.
Also, are there more environments than the brown and yellow one? That's the only one i've seen in all the videos i've watched over the years.
Edit: ok, the campaign seems to be universally hated on Steam.. it does have more environments it seems. I'll wait another year for this one i think.
Played the first mission. So far one conclusion: the requirement of specific number of colonists is moronic which boils down to spamming of houses. Just retarded and you can fail the mission even if you defended/cleared infested. Not sure if I wanna continue playing...
Played a bit more. Tactical missions seems a bit of a drag (mostly because of low movement speed) and WTF about all this complaining that the second mission (with 600 pop) basically requirers farms, lol. I did it easly without farming tech...
