Annihilation is an upcoming science fantasy action horror film written for the screen and directed by Alex Garland based on the book of the same name by Jeff VanderMeer.
The film is scheduled to be released in the United States by Paramount Pictures on February 23, 2018, and released in other international markets by Netflix.
Quote:
A group of soldiers enters an environmental disaster zone and only one comes back out alive, though he is grievously injured. In an attempt to save his life, his wife Lena, a biologist, volunteers for a second expedition into the zone to figure out what happened to him.
The book it's based on is pretty good if you're into mystery sci-fi. But it's not for everyone... I'm excited. It's nice it's coming for Netflix too 17 days after US release (according to Wikipedia).

Goodreads rates it as 3.6, I was hoping for more.
Yeah, like I said, it's not for everyone. I can absolutely see how many wouldn't like it. And the sequels are not at all as good as the first book so.
Judging by the trailers I think the movie is going to end up being better than the book but we'll see.
The first book was ok, even good but second was abysmal shit I couldn't start the third one.
It's like reading this interesting psychological horror and suddenly next part takes place in Pratchett's Discworld.
I read the books a few weeks back because this film looks so good. They were terrible but in fairness the film looks realy loosely based on the first book and still good.
Was hoping for Total Annihilation movie about robot wars millions of years into the future

Non-US/Canada/China rights sold to Netflix, so expect it to be yet another straight to video garbage Netflix film.

*safely sets the expectation-o-meter to very-low settings*
They have good ideas and interesting concepts, but those indeed often go down the drain because of the poor writing and/or shoddy directing and acting, it's a shame. Netflix really need to improve when it comes to movies' quality, so far they feel like some sort of Walmart
So far, the reactions are universally positive and are heaping praise upon Garland’s directorial approach, as well as the performances from the mostly female main cast, and the aforementioned “mind-blowing” ending.
