Fox ordered the pilot. The potential series will be executive produced by Arrowverse mastermind Greg Berlanti and husband-wife pair Salim Akil and Mara Block Akil ("The Game" and "Being Mary Jane"). The Akils will write the scripts.

In the potential series, Jefferson Pierce has made his choice. He hung up the suit and his secret identity years ago, but with a daughter hell-bent on justice and a star student being recruited by a local gang, he’ll be pulled back into the fight as the wanted vigilante and DC legend: Black Lightning. The show is based on the DC character created by Tony Isabella with Trevor Von Eeden.

It has been ordered to series. Not part of Arrowverse of Supergirl for now.
Extended logline:
Quote:
“Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) is a man wrestling with a secret. As the father of two daughters and principal of a charter high school that also serves as a safe haven for young people in a New Orleans neighborhood overrun by gang violence, he is a hero to his community. Nine years ago, Pierce was a hero of a different sort. Gifted with the superhuman power to harness and control electricity, he used those powers to keep his hometown streets safe as the masked vigilante Black Lightning. However, after too many nights with his life on the line, and seeing the effects of the damage and loss that his alter ego was inflicting on his family, he left his Super Hero days behind and settled into being a principal and a dad. Choosing to help his city without using his superpowers, he watched his daughters Anissa (Nafessa Williams) and Jennifer (China Anne McClain) grow into strong young women, even though his marriage to their mother, Lynn (Christine Adams), suffered. Almost a decade later, Pierce’s crime-fighting days are long behind him…or so he thought. But with crime and corruption spreading like wildfire, and those he cares about in the crosshairs of the menacing local gang The One Hundred, Black Lightning returns — to save not only his family, but also the soul of his community.”
I think it's cool that it's not a young superhero like all the others.

Looks surprisingly film-like. Love it, but I doubt that the budget will remain this high outside of the pilot.

At least it has better action scenes than Luke Cage

There are exceptions, Arrow and Legends improved in their second seasons.

I wonder how long before they name drop any other known DC heroes in the show. It does seem odd though that they seem to be going out of their way to make sure people know it is not part of the Arrowverse though as not everyone needs to team up with Green Arrow but could still exist in the same fictional version of the USA.
When the ratings drop low enough, the writers will open a portal to another earth, and African-American Lightning will team up with Flash/Arrow/Supergirl.
"I think Call of Duty resonates because it's believable and relatable," Sledgehammer Games cofounder Michael Condrey says.
Believable and relatable...Yep, sounds like Call of Duty
As long as it's not shooting in Vancouver don't expect much in terms of crossover potential.

The story of this guy is that he was a known superhero in his younger years or something, right? While in Arrowverse Arrow was the first superhero to appear.

It's decent.
The racism is shoved down your throats cause of current climate.
But love the character. Guy with no neck is my fav though. Loved him in hart of Dixie.
He'll be fucking awesome in crossovers though. It has arrow s01 vibes in storytelling and bad guys.
Yeah, that wasn't bad. He is a terrible actor, but somehow it's forgiven, same as with Hart of Dixie indeed, not sure what the guy has but it works for him.
I like it, even though they go a bit overboard with the white/black thing. I especially like the bad guy, he could be a lot of fun later on. Definitely better than most DC shows.
It's what arrow did right.
Though it looks like it might be aimed at the daughters becoming superheroes...
And they seem less interesting of characters. Also shitty actors.
But until then... it's what arrow and the flash did right.
Yeah, second episode was decent too. It's a serie that doesn't take itself too seriously (at least so far). It has some bad moments for sure, but that's with any CW show, it fits right in with arrow/flash at least.
I'm enjoying it, but damn the 'black lightning' music is awful

I saw things like that in here and in other "woman problems" topics so...... Am I the only one that thinks some authorities needs to be alerted about Saner and him possibly being a rapist and/or kidnapper ?
Saner is not being serious. Unless its the subject of Santa!
Bit boring episode, the show has very little Black Lightning in it. How is a show with a pretty much all black cast not racist, while a show with an all white cast is? I like the show, but I feel like I'm watching something "made by blacks, for blacks".
