|
 |
Quote: | Liverpool defender Diimi Traore revealed AC Milan were already partying at half-time as they thought they had already won the Cup. |
Quote: | “When we came back to the locker-rooms we heard the Milan players who were already celebrating the Champions League victory. They celebrated as if it was over, as if they were already the champions. This got us mad, and gave us that desire to comeback,” |
Quote: |
“When we scored the first goal Milan began to get scared. Hamann helped us a lot to create big problems to the Rossoneri. Benitez told us: if you score within the first five minutes of the second half Milan will go into shock, and that is what happened” |

There is little doubt for me that Milan may have become too complacent and didn't react quickly enough to the goals they conceeded. But it's been confirmed by various Milan players that Traore is talking complete nonsense.
Milan, for ninety plus minutes played some really nice, attractive and respectable football and in the end they deserved to win on those merits.
Liverpool were listless, devoid of passion and falling over themselves for ninety plus minutes and in the end nothing more than lucky and hardly gave a champions performance - their three goal comeback mostly the product of contrivances and appauling refereeing.
It wasn't a penalty and Dudeks penalty heroics were illegitimate.
Liverpool should not have gotten through to the final in the first place, having beaten Chelsea with an illegitimate goal likewise.
Milan are perhaps lucky to have gotten past PSV, but they still won fairly.
Quote: | Back to topic: for Milan to underestimate Liverpool was a big mistake. |
They never underestimated anyone, and for the whole of the match they fought like heroes to attack and create and score goals.

Definately TV revenue, nothing to do with Champions.
Quote: | Look at the support they had there |
I did, but I couldn't quite fathom why they were wearing black shirts instead of the red Liverpool were actually wearing?
Quote: | Liverpool are a club with a BIG history. Nothing really more to say. |
Yes, they are, but what the fuck that has to do with a single game where they played poorly I don't know.
Quote: | Lucky and devoid of passion???????????? omg!!!!!! |
OMG, I said it! Yes, the underdogs were devoid of passion. Try and single out for me a moment of passion. It's a nice buzzword. But Liverpool never gave up because at half time they had fuck all to lose - they'd already lost - and then low and behold, some bad defending coupled with some appauling refereeing and they are right back in it.
They still couldn't win of course, nor could they actually string together any semblence of football.
Milan however, apart from those 15 minutes where they were shell shocked by the 12, 13, 14th Liverpool players did.

The referee and linesmen wore black. Liverpool wore red. I couldn't understand this colour clash - it will have not only confused me as a spectator, but the players of Milan for sure.

Who got lucky? Liverpool? Yes, I agree, and in getting lucky Milan became unlucky and as a result when the game is all done and dusted even a blind man can ascertain tthat they were on the wrong end of the Referees law.

Yeah, they were knackered, what with no stamina whatsoever, but the Milan players persevered and weren't falling over themselves like Liverpool.
It's not passion to be tired over 100+ minutes - it's completely logical.
They had no drive. This so called passion which brought about one of the most amazing (and flukey) comebacks was utterly invisible to the human eye.
They managed to survive and feed off some bad defending, bad refereeing and a poor Milan side (for anyone who wants to consider them a world apart; please! Look back at their season of late, they were even lucky to get past PSV - it's been a poor season for Milan for sure)

It has been a poor season for Milan but I wouldn't say they are a poor side. I think the injury to Shevchenko came at a bad time for them. I'd still rate them as one of the top 3 or 4 sides in Europe.

3 or 4? I don't think so. In the last few matches they showed nothing interesting (including CL and IL). Even the first 45 minutes of CL final was not amazing, good efficiency + luck. They used the fact of frozen Liverpool.
I would say 7-10, especially when you consider 3 goals in six minutes. No defense should allow such a terrible lost, especially Italian defense.

Name 7-10 sides better than Milan. The fact narrowly losing the CL and the Serie A is a disappointment for Milan shows how good they are.

In a compo like CL you will have many close matches. Juventus scoring at the end over Real Madrid. PSV with small margins passing over Lyon. Away goals made if ro Chelsea over Barcelona.
