Yeah, there was no doubt. They are developing 4 games at the same time. Only Blizzard can amount so much resources and create 4 amazing games( I hope).

Clone? It took the best bits from existing titles and whilst it didn't necessarily 'redefine the genre' it certainly set the standard. You aren't expected to enjoy every game that's ever released, so even if you don't like Starcraft you should at least be able to appreciate it's place in the annals of history.

same here played it and later the 3 expansions ... but still for me it was a average RTS ,
People only say it was great for one reason , at the time of the release there was a internet boom revolution , new speeds ,new ways to communicate and the NetCafe and in those only one game was played Starcraft , starcraft Lan parties - you can say like Doom and later Quake was the FPS revolution for netplay , this was a netplay revolution for RTS.... so yeah the internet addicts came later and Korea with their "Fanatics"
as you can see SC was only great for those that liked netplay for others it was a boring game , it became only famous because of Koreans and the pre-rendered Cutscenes with above average at that time story line and production quality
and Ispep the only game that Revolutionized Rts was Dune 2 and later C&C ... warcraft and SC added nothing to this genre

um what are you talking about, with C&C (favorite of all time) all you had to do was collect ore, that was it, with WC and SC, you had to decide what was more important in the head of the battle, the crystals, harvesting the gas or building more houses to get more units. |

I agree with Ispep. Starcraft was 'the' game that showed people what good balanced online rts can be. And that is revolution in its own way. A game doesn't need to be perfect in every aspect to be ground braking. C&C Tiberian Sun that came about at the same time also had online, but it was unoptimized and just didn't accomplish what Blizzard did with their MP of the game.
It just isn't true that only SC coming out at right time made it MP hit. Not only was its network code optimised as it was not seen before but it was patched all the time. They constantly patched exploits, balance problems and most importantly, they didn't have only one server next to their office.

they added micro to the genre, and for a lot of people, it is the bread and butter of RTS games.

there even was Starcraft Retribution , but didn't bothered to play this expansion , so you can say there was 4 expansion packs for Starcraft
o and if i wanted micromanaging i would play AIVN , Simcity or Centurion then

brood war was the only "real" expansion, the rest are just shitty mission packs.
and the whole micromanagement thing didn't revolutionize the rts genre, but it was a nice addition that was copied in nearly every other rts game later on. in that sense sc was innovative.
