My dad owns an iPad Air 2 (everything updated) and has a Prime subscription.. He downloaded the APV app to try to watch it's stuff from iPad to TV (Screen sharing, similar to what Youtube's app's Youtube TV does, wich works for us, buuut-> ) but it seems our TV's not compatible (A +5 year old SONY KD-55X8505B ) and ofcourse we don't wanna buy annnnother TV "just for that". The APV app is not in the TV's Apps section. Only NETFLIX, Youtube and very few weird ones.

I've heard that some "multimedia boxes" either has the app included or ready to be downloaded from the box itself's store, and some others you need to download the APK and install it "somehow" (USB drive then touch forbidden settings...?).

Multimedia boxes that i've heard about would be "Apple TV 4K", "Xiaomi MiBox S" or similar names, and that's it.. We don't want to complicate ourselves with setting things up, but we also don't want to spend a "fortune" (Apple TV 4K 220€ "because Apple") just for APV

My question is.. What is a good box/device that you can either:

-Control it via iPad Air 2 for screen sharing

-Use a controller to navigate through settings via TV only

-Have the APV app already included or be able to download it from a store (or simply "install it the APK way")

-A USB stick with the apps in it etc?.. Chromecast?

?

Thanks in advance!

get a fire tv stick, they are on sale right now anyway because of black friday week.
20-30 euros, depends on the model.
it will run mostly anything out of the box. you can even sideload apps like steam link or kodi etc. no need for more. also it has a remote, no need to do it with an ipad etc.

I've been told that before a few mins ago, but when i've shown my dad about it he told me he already saw that (the Fire TV Stick) , that he doesn't wants "a device for a single thing" (Ironic, i know..), then he rectified himself and asked for the following:

"I want to send whatever content i see from my iPad Air 2 to the TV"

Most probably he wants to send whatever movie/series/etc from APV to the TV. Like, open the APV app via iPad Air 2, browse stuff from it, and when he finds anything, send that something to the TV and watch it from the TV, NOT from the iPad Air 2...But how can you do that if our TV does NOT have the APV app and cannot be obtained anymore to begin with?

That's also because, as for late, i've been using his iPad Air 2's Youtube app and sent vids from it to our TV (wich has the Youtube app, luckily) and well, "he finally got interested in this method" (He usuall, sadly, uses the TV's YT app's browser to search for things and ofcourse that's SLOW AS FUCK compared to his iPad's phyical keyboard he bought long time ago's method..)

I know the topic's a bit crazy but "nothing i can do about it". Either his way or he surrenders ^^;;

Any possible alternatives like , maybe, Chromecast or something else, or is the FTVS the only way?..Keep in mind the rectifying part mentioned above..

i doubt wireless screen mirroring is possible with a tv this old (no 3rd party apps which could do it like airbeam) or without apple tv.
so either buy an adapter, so he can mirror it over a hdmi cable, or buy into the overpriced apple tv box.

i would suggest the second, since he doesn't want the cheapest and easiest option and just use a fire tv stick. i know it's not your fault, but this makes me so mad. i got more then enough older people around me which are exactly like that. i started to refuse to help them, if they don't take the easiest option. not gonna waste my time on it anymore, doesn't matter if it's my mom or not.

sometimes i screen mirror some porn from my android phone to my tv with build in screen mirror option, it's laggy/slow as hell and sometimes even stops. it will be a fun ride! hope you don't take it the wrong way, but i guess that is what he wants too, he just doesn't want to tell you, otherwise there would be no problem at all with a fire tv stick.

I don't understand why the Chromecast or the Fire Stick doesn't apply in this case. Simple, cheap and does what he wants.
