Vintage Story is an uncompromising wilderness survival sandbox game inspired by lovecraftian horror themes. Find yourself in a ruined world reclaimed by nature and permeated by unnerving temporal disturbances. Relive the advent of human civilization, or take your own path.
There is some yaar version. Downloaded it and played for 10 mins. Haven't played Minecraft since it was still in beta (LOL) and I will probably enjoy this one which looks and plays almost the same but deeper as Il_Padrino says. On the other hand, it may probably need too much time to learn and do it and I feel too old for such stuff. But will give it a try.
PS: Hate when games randomly choose SHIFT for walking/sneaking and CTRL for running. Swapped them right away.
it's a little bit like rimworld(my favorite survival simulator by far) in the way that you have seasons for example (this is a must in a serious simulator imo), or for example that you can dig down to make a cellar and as you go down it gets colder so you can store food there, makes sense. also it's extremely mod friendly, with rimworld the base game is very limited, i use perhaps 60 mods to turn it into my own experience. i can see how that will be a thing here too eventually.
Temperature and moisture seems to a thing too, so if you see mushrooms it means you have moist.. various animals and plants spawns depending on temperature and moisture. I like attention to detail like that. This is why games like Valheim doesn't interest me too much, those are very superficial survival games imo.
There are also no artificial biomes, the world generation itself makes them organically, e.g warm climate you can get clay, in cold or desert/extremely hot areas it doesn't form.
Have to learn to light a fire first.
Was running around gathering what I can and the night came. Can't see anything, so dark. Just hearing some growling and seeing silhouettes of something nasty, bad and hungry. So now I am trying to just run and escape from these things. Hopefully can survive this first night. Food is so hard to find, had some berries but ate them. Pray for me!
BTW, the inventory is so frustrating. Only 10 slots and you can only gather stuff with empty hands. I see some "basket slots" so I guess I can make some bags for items? Oh well, really have to read that "Survival Guide".
yes you have to create bags to get additional slots. so yeah press h for the handbook to see how you craft them. the nights are really dark indeed, can just see the stars basically hehe
The crafting is a little too "deep" or puzzel-like imo.. can't just place the required items, you need to place them in the correct order in the grid, that's rather annoying (at least for me who hasn't got very good memory). Makes it more cumbersome than it needs to be and without really adding any immersion imo.
I'll say yes, but especially so if you're willing to dive into adding mods, seems to be a bunch of good ones. It's still in development so it can also be worth waiting, but it's very playable in its current state with mods imo..
I have not spent a lot of time with the game yet though, just my very, very early impression from playing and reading reviews, forums.
Like Lovecraft has even been about the visuals, or what you can even see?
so far i've only just met monsters in the complete dark who says bluuuueerrgh, and then i die
i've noticed graphics has very little to do with immersion, if the immersion is there overall.. i mean rimworld looks like poop, it's still very immersive.
Terrific beginning, sloppy middle (almost fell asleep - no pun intended) and wacky ending. Plot twist WHAT. The dreamy sequences were well made, Beksiński shadow lingers.
Thanks for the heads up Vert. Bought it last night.
Seems promising, the in-depth minecraft I’ve been waiting for.
My god, nights are dark! Took me 3 attempts before I survived the first night.
3rd attempt and I still failed to light a fire as night came, only just managed to fumble around in the dark to place a straw bed
Definitely needs a tutorial, I always like to discover things for myself but this one had me flicking to a couple videos after my second death.
It’s going to be a steep learning curve.. love it
it can be pretty hard indeed.
i don't like the crafting grid, i wish there was a mod which would populate it instead of having to remember what ingredient to put where, very cumbersome yet a big part of the game. i don't see how it adds something having to remember where to put things on a grid, not an especially fun gameplay element imo.
anyways, it seems like this is temporary and eventually we will get more knapping and clayforming. those i think are kind of inventive elements (that i don't think i've seen before) because it kind of feels like you're actually crafting something.
I don’t mind so much the crafting grid. Although having to keep switching back and forth to see the recipes is cumbersome. And remembering what you need to craft items. I think this, as you say a big part of the game but I feel it could be streamlined a lot.
I can’t find any mods to change this part of the game.
At the moment all I seem to be doing 90% of the day is just foraging berries to survive the next day.
I’ve started setting up a small plot of land for bushes and nip growing. Marking positions on the map for things as I go for later when I can mine.
Haven’t tried the online part yet. It would be nice to have neighbours though.
I picked it up. I like it. It is hard..and nights are DARK as hell.
We added a few mods, nothing for making it easier just some QoL ones and immersion ones that add things like trapping/fishing, some skill leveling (man is it slooow to level) and being able to move chests to new places without having to empty them first.
Me and a friend played it last night for about 6 hours. Had a lot of fun.
I tossed up a dedicated server if anyone wants to hop on it. Search DX in the MP list its 'DX ATG'.
Keep it mind the server is the 'hard' mode option, but with map and coords options turned on.
You'll need these mods, but easy to install, drop zips in mod folder and done:
-We don't control what happens to us in life, but we control how we respond to what happens in life.
-Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, and weak men create hard times. -G. Michael Hopf
