Announced at the 2019 Bethesda Showcase, watch the announcement teaser for “DEATHLOOP,” a first-person action game from Arkane Lyon.
“DEATHLOOP” transports players to the lawless island of Blackreef in an eternal struggle between two extraordinary assassins. Explore stunning environments and meticulously designed levels in an immersive gameplay experience that lets you approach every situation any way you like. Hunt down targets all over the island in an effort to put an end to the cycle once and for all, and remember, if at first you don’t succeed… die, die again.
Yep this is the only thing that caught my attention besides DOOM, very unique and after Dishonored and Prey, I'm thrilled to scratch the itch of the genre again.
Love me some Arkane, here's hoping it's single-player (and possibly not too reminiscent of Mooncrash, wasn't a big fan of that kind of rogue...deathloop).
It's a neat trailer and the game is clearly in the vein of Dishonored, however I don't know what the fuck it actually is overall as a game... why would I even bother to get hyped?!

There were some articles last year about how Arkane is experimenting with adding online multiplayer elements to their games, kinda like with "The Crossing" which they cancelled a long time ago (in which one player was the hero and other players' objective was to somehow interrupt his story in a singleplayer environment). I could imagine Deathloop being that project, but we'll see (maybe both protagonists are player controlled characters?).
Also on the Zenimax career page they were hiring for a "monetization designer" position which is a bit worrying too.
Hope this is going to be awesome nevertheless, I trust these guys.
Hmm, it does make sense for them to revisit their old failed project now that they're a bigger studio. It's been so long that I don't know if the ideas they had back then would make the game even feel that unique anymore. Time will tell I suppose.

Only problem is that they're owned by ZeniMax Media with Bethesda as publisher so they may not have much of a choice in the matter. We've seen how nearly everything is about monetization these days. So far Arkane has managed to make single player games without any lootboxes or p2w-schemes etc. but there's a risk we won't get great single player games like Dishonored or Prey from them again.

I mean Ubisoft has been getting away with murder for the last few years already. At this point, I have no doubt others are feeling confident they can do the same too.
I actually liked the look of this game more. It was one of the play next ads at the end of the deathloop video. For some reason deathloop started to play and I had a less pretentious Hideo Kojima game running through my mind . I think it was somethingg to do with the landscapes which looked reminiscent of Deaths Stranding to me.. then half way through the vid I was thinking it changed to Willl Smiths next movie release.
The Tokyo one just looked a bit more interesting, if only because you're left wondering what sort of game it's going to be like (even though it says Action/Advenure), the eye candy was nice and the whole premise looks a bit creepy / mysterious, well to me at lthe east heh.
edit: sorry didn't mean to hijack the thread and send it off on a tangent. Just wanted to link the vid not showcase it, which it looks like I just did. Soz!
Edit Edit: aha I see Prudislav's already made a template for this game!.
Dishonored meets Hotline Miami (in terms of repeating a very short gameplay loop over and over again until perfection).. I mean, I like the genre and should enjoy the game in itself, but I'm not really excited either - the artstyle didn't click with me at all.
I wish Arkane were building a spiritual successor to Arx Fatalis instead tbh

Remember this is just the project from the french Arkane Lyon studio, Arkane Austin might be working on something else. Arkane Lyon made Dishonored 2, meanwhile Arkane Austin developed Prey 2017, so they could be working on different titles again.
Deathloop looks more stylized than I hoped it would be, it looks like Arkane dipped more into the "We Happy Few Bioshocky" look. I was hoping for a more grounded look than this.
I am still interested though, Arkane NEVER disappointed me, I trust these guys with their vision.

DEATHLOOP will also be launching on PC at the same time.
You also have the option to infiltrate another player’s game as Julianna and do some hunting.
If this PvP element is disabled, Julianna will still appear your game from time to time, hunting you, but she will be AI-controlled.
Both Colt and Julianna will have access to a powerful range of customizable weapons and abilities, and you can outfit them to suit your preferred playstyle.
DEATHLOOP is Groundhog Day if every time February 2 started again.
Quote:
As Colt, you have one day to eliminate eight targets who are responsible for keeping the loop functioning. If you miss even one, the loop will reset. But they’re scattered all over the island. How are you supposed to track them all down in just one cycle? In order to take out all of them before the day starts over, you’ll need to learn to manipulate the world around you, discovering your targets’ routines and schedules as you fight to solve the puzzle of the island.
And the best part: You’re free to determine how to go about this. You can take every mission – main missions and side missions – at your own pace and in any order you choose as you assemble those puzzle pieces. Each day is an opportunity to learn and piece together the mystery. You’ll get stronger, you’ll try new things, you’ll discover new paths, and eventually, you’ll break this f***ing loop.
The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.
Art style is so much worse than Dishonored. And it won't have its story, characters and choices since they seem to go for this loop mechanic and you will be restarting the game constantly if I understand. Also, generic island with generic assassins and generic enemies that disappear when killed. Yawn.
Rival Assassins Trapped in a Timeloop - Colt, desperate to escape a mysterious island, destined to repeat the same day over and over unless he can find a way to break the cycle, while at the same time is hunted by his nemesis, Julianna. D
uring the 25th annual QuakeCon (and first-ever QuakeCon at Home) Game Director Dinga Bakaba and Art Director Sebastien Mitton took to the digital stage to discuss the story so far in DEATHLOOP.
"I'm really excited by the adaptive triggers and the haptic feedback, both features that will bring some physicality in game experiences, and give important feedback," Bakaba said.
"Deathloop being a first-person shooter, we do a lot of things to make weapons feel differently from one another. One I like is blocking the triggers when your weapon jams, to give to the player an immediate feedback even before the animation plays out, which prompts the player in a physical way that they have to unjam their gun."
