WT was amazing fun in its early days, but went downhill around the time they started introducing jets that were basically unattainable without either putting in weeks of grinding, or paying up. When tanks were released it was fun again for a little bit, but then they were bludgeoned by the grind-hammer as well, so it became a chore to unlock anything beyond the first 4-5 tiers.

And let's face it the better setting for war games will mostly be: WWII, the pacific theatre and Vietnam. There's plenty of missions/battlegrounds to chose from but I guess the 'boring' part comes from them picking mostly the same ones.

|
Most free games are shit, that I understand, but there are also the ones that are worth playing.
For example I was very hesitant to try War Thunder but I'm glad I did.
What's wrong with the previews? The only problem can be integrity of the previewer.
The game has the potential, we'll see down the line how it turns out, but to cross this out completely just becuase it's free is just silly

So, the open beta is going on.
Played one match, it was fun. I had no idea about this AI squad thing before spawning, so I was wondering why my teammates kept following me. 
Anyways, all the AI running around makes it easy on scrubs like me. Sure, eventually I'll be sniped by an aimbot from the other side of the map, but until then I can happily shoot at the braindead squadmates of the other players.
The progression is very forgiving right now, but it's already painfully obvious how it will be exploited by Gaijin. Pimping out your squad with the best perks and weapons will be a whale's dream come true, and progression will be slowed down to a crawl a couple months after release. I can already see half the playerbase having a full squad of T-800s armed to the teeth with the latest and greatest automatic sniper rocket launchers, while the other half taking pot-shots with some rusty bolt-action BB guns.
As of right now my biggest gripe is that I cannot seem to find a way to chose side before or after joining a battle. In WT you can easily select which country's roster you want to use in battle. Here I ragequit after the queue put me in as Axis 5 times in a row, even though I want to keep leveling my Allies squads.

There is a button in the bottom right of the screen to only matchmake as your current country. ( Don't remember the name)
