Project Eternity is an isometric, party-based RPG set in a new fantasy world developed by Obsidian Entertainment.
Quote: | Obsidian Entertainment and our legendary game designers Chris Avellone, Tim Cain, and Josh Sawyer are excited to bring you a new role-playing game for the PC. Project Eternity (working title) pays homage to the great Infinity Engine games of years past: Baldur’s Gate, Icewind Dale, and Planescape: Torment.
Project Eternity aims to recapture the magic, imagination, depth, and nostalgia of classic RPGs that we enjoyed making - and playing. At Obsidian, we have the people responsible for many of those classic games and we want to bring those games back… and that’s why we’re here - we need your help to make it a reality! |
Quote: | Project Eternity will take the central hero, memorable companions and the epic exploration of Baldur’s Gate, add in the fun, intense combat and dungeon diving of Icewind Dale, and tie it all together with the emotional writing and mature thematic exploration of Planescape: Torment.
Combat uses a tactical real-time with pause system - positioning your party and coordinating attacks and abilities is one of the keys to success. The world map is dotted with unique locations and wilderness ripe for exploration and questing. You’ll create your own character and collect companions along the way – taking him or her not just through this story, but, with your continued support, through future adventures. You will engage in dialogues that are deep, and offer many choices to determine the fate of you and your party. …and you'll experience a story that explores mature themes and presents you with complex, difficult choices to shape how your story plays out.
We are excited at this chance to create something new, yet reminiscent of those great games and we want you to be a part of it as well. |

With old-school RPGs making a comeback, I hope Project X is D&D related.

Well not necessarily, the number could be a countdown until the reveal as well.
I hope it's not Dungeon Siege, nothing against the series as such but Obsidian could use a break and finally get some commercial success with an IP of their own (doing grunt work for others on a contract basis leaves them vulnerable to publisher's whims and game cancellations).

I'm hoping that it is not DS4 too. But that's exactly why it will be DS4 or some other game I'm possibly not gonna like.

Teases like these always lead to disappointments because you start to speculate. Better to expect shit.
Therefore, they're obviously making Modern Warfare 4.

If this was Dungeon Siege 4 I'd be overjoyed I appear to be one of perhaps four people on the forum that had a friggin' blast with DS3 ^_^ |
I couldn't stand DS3.
The opening alone annoyed me with the repeated mentions of Jeyne Kassynder.
The narrator must have said "Jeyne Kassynder" at least 997 times during the opening voice over.
No variation whatsoever, always her full name and the repetitiveness of it annoyed me.
Jeyne Kassynder, Jeyne Kassynder, Jeyne Kassynder, Jeyne Kassynder, Jeyne Kassynder, Jeyne Kassynder, Jeyne Kassynder, Jeyne Kassynder, Jeyne Kassynder,
Jeyne Kassynder, Jeyne Kassynder, Jeyne Kassynder, Jeyne Kassynder, Jeyne Kassynder x983.
And I'm not the only one who thinks so.

Believable and relatable...Yep, sounds like Call of Duty

The complete Obsidian lineup.
2004 Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II – The Sith Lords
2006 Neverwinter Nights 2
2007 Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer
2008 Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir
2010 Alpha Protocol
2010 Fallout: New Vegas
2011 Dungeon Siege III
2013 South Park: The Stick of Truth
2013 Wasteland 2
TBD The Wheel of Time
Out of those I loved two.. KOTOR2 and Fallout: NV.. The rest I was completely oblivious to. Didn't like Neverwinter Nights. DS3 was fail on a similar level of D3. In fact, they have a lot in common.
And as for it being KOTOR3.. There will most likely never be a KOTOR3. EA owns the name and the rights to The Old Republic and SW:TOR was to be seen as KOTOR3. And since it failed so hard we can be fairly certain no efforts will ever be made towards a single player RPG carrying the Kotor3 name ever surfacing, pretty much like System Shock 3 will never see the light of day (Ken Levine had a full game design that he showed the bosses at EA who rejected him which led to him going to T2 and got Bioshock going instead).
EA is single handedly the most destructive force in the games industry for fans of good games with great stories and single player centrism.

Yeah, Wasteland was sort of the pre-Fallout game that later led to the development of Fallout 1 & 2. Now they're working on Wasteland 2 as a kickstart project.

Sounds like some fantasy game. I bet it'll be good!
I don't think they would try creating a fuss before announcing something we're already aware of.

Well his entire company are listed as co-developers, so I'm not entirely sure what extent ObsEnt are working with inXile.

It would be nice to get another IP, but then you have the inherent downside of growing attached to it... only to have Obs' publisher can the followups >_>

A dragon around the number and the text is a dead giveaway as a fantasy game if you ask me.
