Wartales is a fantastic adventure RPG with some survival/management components. The combat and progression system are solid. But what makes it addictive is the effort they put into making an immersive exploration.

Wratales is really well put together game. So far no part of the game made me angry or annoyed. So far after like 20hrs I finally moved to 2nd region. Difficulty spike is noticeble...

Gave Wratales a spin some days ago.
It's worth playing IMO. And if you're not bored after a while, perhaps it's even worth buying...

I bought Wratales and played it for a little bit last night
Is it really light on story? Seems to dump you into the game without much. I like the combat, just wondering where it's heading (if anywhere).

Each area has its own conflict and after completing 5 story quests, you'll end up siding with one or the other. There's a bit of lore here and there and some nice touches I observed in terms of how the bits of lore tie with the world. But I wouldn't expect very much in terms of storytelling. Wartales is very much focused on gameplay.
I put 20-22 hours into it and I still find it very addictive.

Steam thinks it might be for me because i've played Terraria(!) and Battle Brothers.
Is it better than Battle Brothers (i guess i kind of liked Battle Brothers, but didn't play past 20'ish hours... i'd probably rate that game 7/10 or so).

Seen some reviews of Wratales, and it looks pretty cool. Is it open world/open ended? Reminds me of Mount & Blade, but with turn based combat and also a bit of the Banner Saga. Or is there a story?
There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.
Truly gone fishing.

I'd definitely say Wartales is much better than BB (way less dependance on RNG...), even though I really like the latter too. But WT is also entirely different. If you like turn-based combat that requires you to actually think and employ tactics, then give this one a go.
I have only played the EA version, so can't say much about the story, but I never cared, anyway. It's the combat/mercenary management bit that keeps the game rolling.

Y'all spelling it wrong.
It's WRAtales.
Before my eyes, it's Wratales.
In my head, it's Wratales.
On paper thus, must be Wratales.
So if you don't change the title back to Wratales, I ain't playin' anymore.

sounds good, i think the main reason i didn't like BB was the RNG. I'll give it a go.

But is it open world/ended? Are you obliged to follow the story or can you just roam around and can you continue playing after finishing the main story in a sandboxy-way? |
It's open world, you can go in any direction (must choose first if the world levels with you, though) and you are not forced (afaik*) to follow any linear path.
*Have just a few hours in. I recommend you give it (the iso) a try. The game does many things very well.

Hmm, how to haggle? I read that there is in game option to negotiate contract prices... but somehow I can't find option to do it. Maybe I am blind or maybe I don't have knowledge...

Checked the steamforums, apparantly it's an ability you have to unlock.

Somehow I didn't find anything thru google.
Thanks!

How big is the game world, are there any cool regions (like dunes etc?)
Does encounters gets more interesting or is it very same:y?
Weird to see that helmets is not a thing in this world or part of the lore in any way btw.. even if its fantasy i think helmets is something that quickly would have developed in these conditions |
I took me about 20hrs to finish 1 region.
I am in 2nd and it looks like it is going to take about the same amount of time to finish it.
https://wartales.fandom.com/wiki/Global_Map
Well, after 20hrs I don't get much new content when it comes to encounters. There is sometimes some escort mission but let's face it - it is battle focused game.
So I don't expect grand plot or anything like that. Just contracts, exploration, fights and RPG elements.
Helmets IIRC are thing that did not make it to 1.0, but it is said that they will come around. Eventually.
EDIT: Typos.
BTW Game got many elements like crafting equipment or cooking food, you know - micro maaegeing, well fit together and I don't get annoyed by them.
Some devs tend to make some elements way to complicated just for sake of being complicated. Here... it is smooth.

Noice.
One tip from my gameplay: WOOD. Look around and gather WOOD.
You will see...

Hmm, few tips:
- professions - https://wartales.fandom.com/wiki/Professions bonuses are huuuge. Tank-cook with +8 CON is a huge help. You need to cook food anyway and this way he gets good bonus fast. More difficult recipe (more ingredients) bigger bonus is. If you change profession you loose all the progress.
- save often - if u pick option to have free saves; sometimes after the rest you have little chat with group memeber and sometimes all options are kinda bad.
- food - get knowledge topic from tinkerer domain with cooking pot asap and get cook there to reduce foor usage (remember to upgade pot when you can).
- each camp upgrade needs someone to oversee it to gain bonus (I had chest that helps with "laundry" of stolen items and I forgot to put thief on it >.> )
- don't be afraid to get second pony when you will get some financial stability... there is so many things to carry around.
- under enemy char there is icon showing current attack focus, when in melee ranage. I sometimes tend to run behind enemy to make juicy backsab to suddenly notice that enemy turns on me and I can forget about backtabbing. And tanking with dagger is not a very good idea.
Good luck!

I played a some months ago and I think they since tweaked the economy/AI, etc. All I remember was I was barely making it. Picking up contracts didn't pay a lot and I seemed to be barely hanging on. I did try to cross this bridge to go to a different location and I think I either had to pay or defeat this camp next to it. Either way, I didn't have the money or the power to defeat the enemies.
I loved what I saw but I decided to hold off until a few more updates came out.
