Posted: Thu, 3rd Nov 2016 17:44 Post subject: Iron Harvest (RTS in the alternate reality of 1920+) |
|
 |
http://iron-harvest.com/
Quote: | After World War 1 farmers found a plethora of unexploded ordnance, barbed wire, weapons, shrapnel and bullets while ploughing their fields. They called it the Iron Harvest. Iron Harvest is a real-time strategy game (RTS) for Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC, set in the alternate reality of 1920+.
You lead hero characters, mechs, and soldiers into battle. Cover mechanics and dynamic destruction play a major role in combat. Your squads take cover automatically, but a simple brick wall will only offer protection against small calibers, not against mech-mounted cannons.
Throughout its open sandbox levels you have to find your own way to reach the goals set by the dynamic story line.
The Setting
1920+ is an alternate version of our own world created by Polish artist Jakub Różalski. In the early 20th century, tradition clashes with progress, and the world is still full of mysteries and secrets.
Walking Machines
Mankind, fascinated by technology, iron, and engines, invented powerful walking machines, that proved to be mighty weapons on the battlefields of the Great War and are now part of everyday life.
The Unknown Enemy
Now, a few years after the Great War, secret forces are working towards the destabilization of Europe, determined to set the world on fire and seize control.
Factions
- The Saxony Empire is one of the most influential countries in Europe, with powerful industry, developed cities, modern factories and a strong military tradition. After the unfavorable conditions of surrender in the Great War, the current mood in the Empire is bad, and proud elites and humiliated aristocrats secretly oppose the Emperor’s appeasement policies.
- The Polania Republic is a large agricultural country with a long history. It is trying to maintain its status and territory, struggling with its aggressive neighbors: The Saxony Empire in the west and Rusviet in the east. Polania initiated a program to modernize its army while a large part of the country is still occupied by Rusviet forces.
- Rusviet Rusviet is huge, powerful, and has unmatched industrial and population potential. However, the country is tired and worn out by the long war. People are frustrated, and the power of Tsar Nikolaj weakens. Mysterious Grigori Rasputin has become an extraordinarily powerful man and revolution is in the air...

The art is cool.
Another one on the same "Men of War" engine?

This guy, Jakub Rozalski just hit a jackpot. A boardgame, a video game, puzzles. You lucky bastard.

The concept looks really interesting, but

is a reason for concern

Looks great, it reminds me of a RTS game that was meant to be released in 1999 but never got released. I think it was called Red or something like that. You guys remember that game ? Has definitely the same style as this one.

Here we can see why this piece of shit is multiplatform - you get an article on derpigon. If you're a PC game in 2016 nobody's gonna write about you - why would they, their audience is made up of peasants. Unless you're some bigger title like Civ, Dawn of War or smth like that, you're shit out of luck. That is, unless you're a console game. Then you're good to go

Polish IGN (didn't even know such thing exists) quotes the author of the setting saying that "if all goes well, there might soon be a movie or tv series set in the 1920+ world"

Looks pretty good actually.. I do quite like the theme/art direction and the explosiveFX + munition dynamics + physics is nice.

I don't trust this one. Kickstarter is obviously incomming. For a year in development the devs have little to show for, 2 mechs and some walls and houses collapsing. The artwork is nice though.

I love the art direction. Please don't fuck it up, especially with parallel development for consoles as well.

Still really worried that this is a multi platform release. I don't trust devs one bit to make separate UI tailor made for PC or consoles.
Otherwise looks good. Glad to see a Relic RTS again, now that Relic themselves gave up on it for some utterly retarded reasons.

Ewww Yum! All those Vintage-walking Tin Cans remind me of Warhammer 40k Ork's Killa Kanz! Ha!
Anyway.. yeah the scourge/impact of the dumbing-down console. We can only hope for... leniency.

Indeed, not many companies in the R̶T̶S gaming world do the separate console/m&kb specific UI job, they often tend to create some kind of Frankenstein monster that in the end doesn't really satisfy anyone. Here's hoping this might be an exception, otherwise it would be a giant waste of a terrific concept and good gameplay elements like the emphasis on destructibility (always a pleasure to have). Oh, and obviously a meaningful and meaty story/campaign is needed as well, but maybe that would be asking too much these days :')
