We are lacking a Switch category. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is amazingly being pushed forward about a month to July 29. I cannot remember last this has happened to any game.
Since it's on the Switch, expecting terrible graphics and horrible performance just like Xenoblade Chronicles 2.
What a shame.
It is weird though that i never really thought much about it when playing it on the switch. There are other games though where i was cursing a lot while playing.
looking great, according to most previews the game's visuals and performance are vastly improved compared to the previous one.
The tone also seems to be more serious with better writing and less anime-tropes and the game seems to have throwbacks to even X in regards to the world and maybe gameplay, but nobody was allowed to talk about that in detail.
Damn, this is by far the worst xenoblade so far. Bland characters, yakuza like villains spouting cliches, and war setting. Seriously hope it managed to rip away from that and give us a sense of wonder and adventure like the rest.

Its only the beginning, the 2nd area is probably the biggest single zone out of any Xenoblade game (not counting X since it was fully open world) that covers several biomes and has alot of verticality, a joy to explore.
Some of the villains talk and behave like chavs, but then again so did most of them in 1 and 2 as well, I replayed them not too long ago, meanwhile the core cast of characters is imo the best so far with most believable chemistry and least typical anime tropes.
It starts bleak and takes a bit of time to get going, but the game gets alot better and the combat is the best to date imo, with all the different classes and playstyles you can acquire, but dont want to go too much into detail.
The story pacing is definitely a bit slow so far, but gameplay-wise the game is top notch.
How's the character designs? Is it unified or similar to 2 where they had some Kingdom Hearts aesthetics for the baddies? I didn't like that, always felt weird to me.
And did they improve the map? Navigating the ingame map in 2 was a pain.
I'm in chapter 3 and i still say much of the same. Exploration was amazing in the first game and second also i believe. The first game you had giant maps with verticality and you could go and do whatever you wanted and move to the plot when you felt like it. Second had absolutely stunning areas too and a beautiful city. This game leads you by the wrist down a narrow path of quite boring and featureless zones. nothing so far has stuck out in a "WOW!" kind of way.
If there is a left and right, it'll forcibly push you down one of those paths and invisible wall off the other, or add 30 level higher enemies.
I know the characters better now. Some are better, but they're way weaker than the cast of 1 and 2 still. Much more sullen and have very little in the way of chemistry. 3 is more reminiscent of 1 where characters are concerned, yet the characters in 1 had more soul.
The plot is just boring so far. It reminds me of a generic seasonal action action anime sprinkled with the berserk mark of sacrifice from the villain for enemies to attack you.
I know some of the criticism can land on XB2 also, but i dunno. Characters were anime like, yet they felt 100 times better. Rex was pretty annoying at times though.
In 2 they had like 20 character designers, Nomura did the baddies and thats why they looked like PS2 FF or KH characters, in this one its unified so far, more like in 1.
Map navigation is fine, you can hit R3 to enlarge the minimap during gameplay or hotkey L2+X to open the full map and set waypoints, quick travel etc. Xenoblade maps were never good for verticality and thats not really fixed here either, but you can make the game show the exact gps route straight to the destination if you have trouble figuring out how to get to different elevations, which is a welcome feature.
XCX was quite good, but they failed with the protqgonist. He wasnt really there basically and that was just terrible design. But the exploration and music was perhaps the absolute best this series has ever had. I loved the mecha combat also. Story was its low point.
