He’s been nominated three times – as Best Actor for ‘Born on the Fourth of July’ and ‘Jerry Maguire’ and as Best Supporting Actor for ‘Magnolia’.

Yet Tom Cruise, arguably the biggest movie star of the last 20 years, has never actually got his hands on a little gold man, but why?

Well he's an action star, you need to be Daniel Day Lewis for Oscars.

Personally I never liked his way of acting. He just has one way of playing angry for example.

Maybe I liked him in Top Gun, but that was because of the girl:

At sixty-one years old, Tom Cruise is now approximately the same age as the late Paul Newman was when a younger Cruise co-starred with Newman in the 1986 drama film The Color of Money, which brought Newman his first and only competitive Academy Award win after seven previous unsuccessful nominations. However, while The Color of Money reveals a Newman who had embraced the old man persona, with gray hair, prescription glasses, and a tired body, Cruise doesn’t seem ready to make such a transition.

Indeed, as Cruise seems to be intent on maintaining the action hero persona that Cruise first cultivated in 1986 with Top Gun, which was released just several months prior to Color of Money, it’s as if Cruise exists in a time warp, and as Newman appears old beyond his years in The Color of Money, Cruise presently doesn’t appear to be a day over fifty. Accordingly, the most recent Oscar nomination that Cruise received as a producer for Top Gun: Maverick highlights the fact that it’s been over twenty years since Cruise received his last Oscar nomination for acting.

Cause he is Batman Laughing

He did receive plenty of other adult pretenders' awards, so he is fine.
Considering the low and deteriorating even further Oscar awards standing, I don't think he cares, neither should we.

He did a Top Gun remake:

I can't for the life of me understand why people liked this movie. I thought it sucked.

Much like the original film, it was two hours of pure US navy propaganda, with air-cowboys saving the world in their super reckless yet lovable way, yet again. Ugh. Same tired tropes as the first film, same obnoxious & overconfident characters, same exact story formula, same insane Tom Cruise stunts, same overall piece of crap.

Edit: And why Nicole Kidman doesn't want to be your wife.

Whaaa? Military being confident??! oh wow, sooo awful, military men should be total cuck weaklings or else i'm not gonna watch!

People loved the movie because it's super rare to see movies these days where men are acting like men and there's no useless woke propaganda. It's also a really well made action movie.

Also, the latest top gun is not a Kubric movie Laughing

@vurt with the standard weird everything is woke or about woke antiwoke woke

Yeah I thought TG: Mav sucked because it was a play it safe flat GenZ remake of the first movie devoid of any originality. They shot Goose's son playing the same fucking song on piano in a pub like the first film, they couldn't even be bothered to give him his own identity, have his own interests, different instrument or anything. -> Studio thinks dumbfuck audience has to remember Goose from the first movie and this is the only way the audience will get it.

The plane sequences were really good (10-15 mins tops?), I could have just watched the crew shoot that stuff for 20mins and call it a day.

Also the first movie was interesting in a way given it was somewhat navy propaganda film with a flaming homosexual director injecting gay themes all over the movie in the 80's. The girl / love interest was added in reshoots after the fact because the studio realised they had an ultra-gay navy movie on their hands Laughing . Hey I guess this was the era where studio's took chances and let creative people make big budget movies.

Cruise's best chance (other people wrote) to win an Oscar for BMP was TPII. He didn't win:
