What's this?

Isn't it just BG with the BG2 engine - like the BG Trilogy mod?

My first reaction was:

But then I started to wonder: what exactly can they do to it, that hasn't already been done by the modders? BG1 on BG2's engine with a widescreen mod gives you all HD you need, aside from movies. So... I dunno. If it's something worthwile, I'll definitely buy it. But a part of me smells an attempt to milk some money out of an old and laregly forgotten (as sad as it may sound - it's true when you consider today's audience) IP.

Baldur's Gate 1 will be on Steam too.

If the Baldurs release is a success, there will be other oldies like this.

FF7 and FF8 are in the Steam registry too, yet SE isn't publishing them now. The appid/registry isn't as foolproof as it once was Sad

seems to me like just Steam release of the existing games, and even if it will be HD,it will be more of MDK imo.

Would they really make a new website just to announce plain and unchanged BG series coming to Steam? Don't think so... We'll see...

I don't see why not. We all know marketing is what sells.

Just call it Baldur's Gate HD - and people will scramble to waste their money.

Notice how the skull is all crispy and sharp?

Hope it's a HD remake

Or better yet, a sequel developed by Obsidian

It doesn't say "rising" - it says "Raise Dead: Infinity Engine" -- the Shadowy Figure is casting the necromancer spell "Raise Dead" and targeting the Infinity Engine, basically meaning they're bringing it back to life. This could be a re-release of the BG saga, or hell, bringing back the Infinity Engine? That could even mean BG3 made with the old engine.

Infinity Engine was used in Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale games. And in Planescape: Torment, of course.
