Sry 4 caps.
You should make a remindersystem for popular games, so when they get to nforce everybody who want gets a window to their screen or, even better if they pay they would get a reminder sms to their mobile phone. I would pay 1-2€ for that sms reminder...

Why not an automated mail, saying the game or whatever is released...

haha..

anywho.. I do think this could be a good idea, if taken in the right direction. I don't think we could ever get the functionality your proposing, (more so if we're talking about "scene" releases as it would be quite obviously putting NFOrce into the spotlight in un-needed ways.).

I don't see why we couldnt have a daily e-mail service showing the most rated releases of the day, or maybe the last 5 releases at the end of the day. It could be generated from the RSS or something..

I think thats about as good as your going to get though Wink specificly targeting certain scene releases will simply put the site into the "zone of advertising warez" right now it sits just on the edge of that zone.. Its a happy place with elves and bunnies and the sun never goes down!

Yeah, it could be like you defined how many releases before you got a mail.
For example if you choose 3, then you wouldn´t get a mail before 3 new releases were out.

i like the idea. but look wht just happened...people f5 the frontpage in anticipating gtsa and the site went down (well i guess that is what happened) and having extra load on the server sending all those mails could be too much...

It would have to be a pretty complex system in order to not be "spamy". Something that works off a lot of rules, number of releases, release type, daily/weekly/monthly/hourly mails, information wanted in the mails (NFO, Description, rating, comments). Then if the "based on rating" thing was implimented, it would have to consider what NFO's you would be sent, maybe only releases with a 10+ rating.. etc.. Maybe only releases from certain groups.

ERmm.. anyway.. im getting ahead of everything here Razz I blame the spreadsheets im currently filling out for work!

Two small points though:

- Would it not stop the F5's?
- Pay per use? for a new server to handle the e-mails. maybe lol? (not sure how many people would pay for it, I personally wouldnt as I rarely if ever look at the front page, I get what I need from the forums..)

-- edit --

On top of that, there is always the RSS and IRC bots. I dunno, I think the admins provide MORE than enough for people to know when a release is out.. *shrugs* I guess im just trying to fuel idea's, even if I dont really think they're needed.

Yeah, I totally agree. Ill have a look into how easy it would be to make a site that essentially provides and "e-mailed rss" service... or maybe some sort of ordered/sortted RSS homepage.. Could give me something to do with my sparetime/domains/webservers Razz

I voted no, because just like [sYn] mentioned, NFOrce already provides RSS and IRC bots to inform the people. I don't think that adding such an email/sms service would produce a good work/resources to service/benefit ratio.

And most people probably don't wanna pay for it I guess...

I also voted no as I don't think this type of service is needed. RSS and IRC is all I need.

djeez, this is pathetic. Nforce aint your life.

1.)Why would you need an email service?
It are just releases, i really really don't see the point in sending emails.
If you care, you go to the site.

2.)It will generate a shitload of extra data traffic

I voted no as well, on the subject of RSS feeds there a great idea but they just don't seem to update much. Looking at them just now advent rising is shown as the last Xbox release (wot no GTA SA) and the "all nfo" feed doesnt display the most recent releases.

Thats another issue though for a forum and service thats free its great the majority of the time. Very Happy

If the RSS isnt functioning well then maybe that should be the first point of call for a fix rather than creating a whole new means. How bad are the RSS feeds?

Admins, any idea's?

Only if the RSS feeds are broken they don't update at all (happens sometimes after server switch or something similar, happens no more than once in a few months) otherwise rss feeds get updated every 5 minutes with the latest information.

hehe.......its not that its not functioning [sYn] and I know there are alot of silly twats out there who couldn't use an RSS feed program. Laughing

Its that its not upto date on both of the feeds that I just checked - you can check the feed yourself and you'll see what I mean for the all nfos feed "RSS generated by NFOrce on Mon, 6 Jun 2005 14:40:00 +0200" last release shown as "Glass Trap (2004) *DVDSCR* *STV* - FICO" the Xbox one is simiarly slow. Checked with my rss feed program and using firefox with same results.

Thx Rinze so they must be broken now? Smile

Yeah, you do seem to be right about the Xbox feed.. not sure about the others I'm at work and have no time to test.

Code:
