Quote: | Metro 2033 developer 4A Games is relocating from its original hub in the Ukraine to Malta while developing a new and currently unannounced title in the Metro series, the company announced.
According to the developer, Malta's position as a state in the European Union will help the company compete at an international level. While 4A will continue to keep its Ukraine office, the new Malta studio will become its headquarters. Likewise, managers will begin making the move to the new building. |

Wasn't this the dev where they were made to work in pretty bad conditions? It seems rather harsh to force everyone to make such a huge move.

no. I loved the pacing of last light. It reminded me of hl2 a LOT.
open world usually ruins coherent story telling and atmosphere

No, that rumor was debunked. Conditions were okay for RU/UA studios.
Hell, even Larian Studious (for example) conditions aren't that great and they are located in one of the better for life countries in EU.

Definitely agree with the storytelling aspect, though.

More Metro is always good.
As long as they don't start to explore dangerous cowadoodesque paths in order to cater "that" big slice of the audience as well. The formula is fine as it is, very cinematic and linear, yes, but of the good kind. Please no co-op/ multiplayer/social experiments and the likes.

What makes you say that, from watching their Kickstarter videos it looks like they have a huge office with modern equipment and each employee has a lot of personal space.

More Metro is definitely appreciated by me, the last two were fantastic and I actually preferred LL.

Linear games ruin the atmosphere and immersion almost completely, SS2 and HL 1-2 are very rare exceptions though..
I've bought both of the Metro games but they're really dull compared to STALKER.. 30% in or so i lose interest completely, while with STALKER i've replayed it many times..

Well, hopefully they will learn from the mistakes of Last Light and make it actually challenging like the first one, especially the stealth aspect which was A.W.F.U.L.

I really hope that they make it more like the first one. The second was a failure story-wise in my opinion. It felt "americanized".

You play as one of the Polis' stalkers and have to free roam the Library and its nearby locations to search for various supplies.

http://www.onlysp.com/4a-games-working-another-metro-title-new-ip-set-space-fascinating-alien-landscapes-rumor/
Quote: | But first, a few words about the games 4A Games. At the moment the team is working on three projects .
The first of them – Metro Redux for PlayStation 4 , Xbox One and PC is almost ready and will be released in the summer of 2014 amending and updating Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light for next-generation consoles took almost 9 months and now both played excellent shooter with a gamepad.
The second project – a new shooter in the universe Metro, radically different from the previous parts of the series . Working on the script author of the novels “Metro” Dmitry Gluhovskij and action games … Here we have to stop. NDA forbids us to give any details , but look at those episodes and technical pieces that we have seen in the office 4A Games, really impressive .
The third project is even more secret . This is a fantastic shooter about space with a very unusual design , structure and idea. Alien landscapes are fascinating – we do this have never seen . Alas , more information about the new game we can not provide . |

Aside from the horrible performance, 4A have certainly proved their worth when it comes to games/visuals and gameplay - the two Metro titles are incredible. I have high hopes for the "space" project as well as Metro 3, though the "radically different" part gives some pause for concern.

I think performance in Last Light was pretty good considering the visuals. It ran absolutely smooth (no stutters, quite stable frametimes, etc) as well, unlike many "next-gen" games these days that don't even look half as good.

On my shit hardware at least, which by the way is bellow the minimum requirements (RAM) so maybe I shouldn't bitch so much

It still wasn't perfect and made a lot of high end machines crumble, which is why I mention it. The visuals were really nice though so at least you had *some* reason why it was so strenuous.

you sure those "high end" machines didn't have SSAA and PhysX enabled? LL runs absolutely great on my ancient PC and manages to look amazing still.

Yes.... I'm quite sure. My pair of 570s couldn't keep 60 on high settings either, though I'm used to that. I'm not getting into this argument/debate again, I'm sure it run perfectly for everyone, but that doesn't make it global fact and I stand by what I said; which was that the visuals were great and the games were amazing, but performance was pretty poor.

i can play on 50fps most of the time on high settings actually, and my card is a fuckin 6770.......but high isn't the maximum setting though, it's ultra or something.
it's weird that you cant keep 60 on two 570s.

For some reason voiceovers and cutscene animation has always been a weak point (among others) in motherussian games. The problem is v/o and mocap actors aren't movie actors and just can't force themselves to speak and move naturally. The voiceovers are always very synthetic, not sincere and unnatural sounding and movements stiff and unrealistic.
Unless they enlist some professional foreign mocap studio that builds entire sets for a scene nothing will change.
Today I didn't even need to use my AK. I gotta say it was a good day. (c) - Ice Cube
