Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger announced today that Lucasfilm is in development on a second Star Wars live-action series for Disney+, the Company’s new direct-to-consumer streaming service. The series, which will go into production next year, follows the adventures of rebel spy Cassian Andor during the formative years of the Rebellion and prior to the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Diego Luna will reprise the role of Andor. “Going back to the Star Wars universe is very special for me,” said Luna. “I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply.”
The rousing spy thriller will explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire. A release date for the series has not yet been announced. Stay tuned to StarWars.com for the latest update
Tony Gilroy, who co-wrote Rogue One and eventually directed the massive reshoots that are said to have saved it, will write the pilot and direct multiple episodes of the series.
"I've never been interested in Star Wars, ever. So I had no reverence for it whatsoever. I was unafraid about that," said Gilroy. "And they were in such a swamp … they were in so much terrible, terrible trouble that all you could do was improve their position."
Rogue One debuted to strong reviews (85 percent on Rotten Tomatoes) and earned more than $1 billion at the global box office, but Gilroy doesn't have plans to return to a galaxy far, far away.
"It doesn't appeal to me," he said of making another Star Wars film. "But I don't think Rogue really is a Star Wars movie in many ways. To me, it's a Battle of Britain movie."

The 'Bourne' scribe's pay has grown from $200,000 a week to north of $5 million as work on the Star Wars standalone film expanded to include postproduction and tackling several issues including the ending.

These Disney+ Star Wars spin offs are never ending!
True - but there is no end to the possabilities of what they can make. Especially since its about the whole universe
you are delusional if you think just because the universe is vast they can pump different content, let alone quality shit. its already gotten stale, woke crap, obi-wan has shit reviews, it will end up mcu fatigue. they had a little spike with the mandolol after such bad movies but its downhill from there again.
I'm really looking forward to the upcoming Mandalorian season as well as the Ahsoka show (I hope they do it more justice than they did TBoBF). As for the rest? Meh. I know they're working on the next step in Star Wars material after the stuff that was presented in that Disney/SW presentation thingy where they introduced all the new shows. It seems someone listened to the fans etc. since they will introduce shows and movies(?) that are focusing on the Sith etc.
I wish someone would milk me with the same enthusiasm Disney's milking Star Wars.
A forgettable character from a mostly forgettable movie(except for Vader at the end). Who's next, Sebulba? The shape shifting Assassin from Attack of the Clones?
"I think Call of Duty resonates because it's believable and relatable," Sledgehammer Games cofounder Michael Condrey says.
Believable and relatable...Yep, sounds like Call of Duty
Why do they have such a hard on for this era of Star Wars? Are they afraid that people won't like it if Vader or [insert younger version of a character from the original trilogy] doesn't do a cameo or something?
Make one in the Old Republic. Basically just make a swashbuckling adventure with your washed out drunk ship captain who formerly sided with the dark jedi but lost their war and is now a smuggler, who has a chance to redeem himself by helping young bright eyed naive jedi on the run from the new big bad, and he has to run into his old jedi academy pals turned enemies and the ones who joined him in turning traitor and they get into wacky hijinks.
It's highly unoriginal, but at least we don't have to deal with anyone remotely related to the Skywalkers.
The era wouldn't matter if they made decent films. I liked Rogue One, I think it was the only decent one Disney's made since they started churning and burning these movies
This one looks okay as well. But yeah, other settings would be nice. It is a shame they've proven time and again that the majority of the new stuff is utter shit, so at the end of the day it'd mostly be Disney ruining Star Wars in some other time period.
