Looks like.... No man's sky, almost exactly. Like the menus and shit. Hopefully it's better.
Wouldn't worry about that - first game was absolutely nothing like One Man's Lie (it actually had an extremely snappy, PC-centric interface).

I'm not a fan of the visceral focus on colorful loot and visual paillettes for the bling-bling generation, but it looks more full-fledged than the first one (which I found a bit shallow). Not holding my hopes up though

Schade admits that there were conversations with Epic about Everspace 2, but Rockfish never seriously considered pursuing exclusivity. As much as anything else, Everspace was a game built in tune with its community, and that community really took off on Early Access. Steam is very much the series' home, and the source of more than 50% of the game's revenue to date. At this point in time, Schade says, the Epic Games Store simply doesn't have the tools that Rockfish needs to build its sequel, and to build an even larger community around that sequel.
"Plus, our hardcore fans are on Steam," Schade adds. "They have already said 'Please don't do it. We just don't want it.' You don't even have to discuss whether this is reasonable or not. If they don't want it, they don't want it, and more than 100,000 people bought Everspace in Early Access. They would be mad at us.
"Without Epic, Rockfish and Everspace wouldn't exist, but it's the same with Steam. Without Steam, we wouldn't exist... In our case, it doesn't make sense. We need Early Access, the full feature set, the forums, the constant updating, the whole infrastructure. Valve has the best platform, by far, to roll out a game as an independent developer. It's by far the best tools and the best communities. This is exactly what we need."

Yet people still throws money at Star Citizen shitfest.
I bet it will still get made anyways, as you are telling me they have not made enough off of Everspace to really cancel the game over $100k difference on Kickstarter. I think it is more of the fact people are tired of Kickstarter games in general and stuff like Star Citizen being the perfect example.
So why look at this one? It's not a sim by any stretch if the imagination.
Is the only thing close to it unfortunately. Not like we gonna see a game like Privateer anytime soon...
Rebel Galaxy Outlaw is a carbon copy of Privateer. It's incredible how similar they are. If you are expecting things to have advanced a bit in the last couple decades that could be a disappointment I guess but it really is the same thing, down to almost every particular. Main difference I can see is that every system has a gas station so you can't fuck yourself in an empty system with no jump fuel. And you can land at a station without failing your current delivery mission. And you can't look to the sides or back in your cockpit.
Seriously though it's the same game. "Now entering an automatic landing zone"

You need half a million to make a game now? Only if you live in San Francisco.
You say this based on what? Your knowledge of the project scale or your knowledge of game development/management?
There's still hope this will get funded. I'm not so keen of partaking in crowdfunding campaigns anymore. But I might make an exception for this one. I'll wait until there's few hours left to see what's the situation.
Half a million is not that much money to create a modern game. It is actually not enough when you divide it among a small team of people who have to get paid for more than a year.
And this is a sequel to a well-received but limited scope game ... disappointing. Well, next time space shooter/exploration fans whine let's point them at this, if it fails. Like all those supposedly hardcore arena FPS fans finally shut the fuck up after a couple of dozen games failed to get any audience, even the "hardcore" ones.
Star Citizen was funded 50 times over and an eon has passed, where is SQ42?
