If it's anything like Championship Manager (now known as Football manager) then don't let the 'visuals' fool you. It's a very in depth but fun and entertaining game that provides a lot of realism and control which isn't suited to action titles like NHL or FIFA/PES.
It might be off putting at first, but stick with them and all the details and number crunching done behind the scenes brings to light a realistic representation of the overall game - it's like a little world of it being simulated
