So apparently, next Xbox is a PC, running Windows 11 with some custom instructions in the CPU to support older One and Series games. Yuck. Windows FSE is so horrible on handhelds, and apparently they are basing it on that. All rumors are that it will be a very expensive machine (1000-1200$). RIP Xbox.
The rumors so far were that it would be a PC, running Windows, that will have some custom CPU support for backwards compatibility with Xbox One and possibly 360, just like Xbox One and Series had special instructions in the CPU to help accelerate 360 emulation. So going forward, you'd be able to play all new "Xbox" games on any PC, but for legacy support, you'd buy the MS gayming "Xbox PC", which seems like mid-high end AMD Zen 6 CPU + RDNA 5 GPU on the same die. Unclear how that would deal with differences in architecture between prior generation consoles, such as shared memory between CPU and GPU, which Windows does not support currently.
With Assa Shawarma stepping in, who knows how this plan will change. They might try to compete again, with a $1000+ USD consoles and a repertoire of retarded "exclusive" games, such as Tears of War and Gayble—good luck to them. <- That is the worst case scenario. I doubt we'll get there.
hopefully microsoft is back in the game, Sony having the full monopoly is not a good news. Switch2 and Nintendo doesn't count, they already have the handheld monopoly.
