As soon as someone figures out how to crack the system. I read somewhere that it was damn near impossible.

It is hard decrypting the data, when you can't get the data onto your computer in the first place. Look how long its taking to crack DS roms, it will be at least a couple of years till the DS and PSP are cracked. Thats why you should'nt be getting your hopes up, and buying the device for that reason.

the only real way to read the Data to a PC would be to connect the PSP to a PC and use the PSP to read the disc to the PC, Like how DC games are copied etc

DC?
As in dreamcast? Dreamcast games are copied by simply inserting the game disc into your computer, and then copying it. Yes, it is that simple. The dreamcast has no protection in any way.

With a Dreamcast GD-Rom A normal CD-Reader will only read the first, inner track and won't read past the black area!!!!!

And Anyway Dreamcast games can be upto 1.1GB!!..

Maybe you should check things before you make posts as you have no idea what you are talking about Wink...

Obviously you have Never tried inserting a Dreamcast disc into your computer...

Hahahahahahaha

Maybe next time before you speak you should read up on how you copy and how you put dreamcast games on a CD-R. Not to mention that there IS NO "black" area on dreamcast original CD's. And yes I am perfectly aware of the serial link method, but that method is stupid anyways.

Look at edit. And to clarify I said BURNING dreamcast ROMS onto a CDR. Why would you need the serial cable when you can burn it to a CDR. Oh and BTW here is how you RIP the games without using a serial cable, like you thought I said originally - http://www.mgforums.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=2299

I got a psp and i will tell you when you connect the psp to the computer the computer will only be able to access the memory card.....

The UMD drive is an Isolated part that is not accessable by computer

nope....
the psp is made to run the games off of the UMD disc which will never be available in a recordable form.... and yea a hack might be discoverd that will allow you to dump the disc data on a mem card thats big enough to hold it.. however that would be way too pricey just to play a game that you shouldnt even have in the first place.... and even if the mem stick method would work another problem is getting the umd data off the disc
and sony has no plans to make umd readers for other devices.

As some people may know trhe hardest copy protection to crack is the ones that is physical

I've discussed this earlier...

a rip could succeed or fail based on the type of video and audio the PSP uses.

The blessing of the PSP (tm) is that it can play MP4 video and MP3 audio. If the devs USED that feature, we're fucked. We'll either be playing games with no video and audio or shit-ripped video and audio. If they did not, we can comfortably shrink a 1.8gb game into a 300-400mb file just by encoding the video and audio. If the psp can play those formats in-game, that is, in which case I see no reason (other than possibly shaving a few secs off load times and adding a few fps) that the psp wouldn't use the feature in the first place and reserve that extra 1.4gb for more important things like content or pics of Alyssa Milano.

And By the way, I have had that guide since it first came out on the MegaGames Forum... But it certaily is not simple as it involves Hacking a CDRom Drive to bits and then doing a Disc Swap method to trick the GDRom disc...

Hmmm I don't really think they are going to use the MP4 video playback nor the MP3 player to play the music and videos though I coulde be very wrong!

You wont even be able to rip the discs... let me remind you the usb connection only gives you access to the memory card not the UMD, and the only device that will be able to read the umd disc is the psp since there will be no stand-alone umd reader...

Sony really came up with a format that will be close to impossible to copy

Yea but thats what Sega thought with the Dreamcasts format Smile... Sega didnt know someone would work out how to use a coders cable thing to transfer files from the DC to PC Smile

Um dont you get one thing???
the umd drive is isolated from the memory card.... when you connect the psp to a computer all you can access is the memory card..

and even if you were able to get the data off the umd you will need to get the data onto a blank umd which will never exist
as sony stated they will not release a UMD burner or UMD blanks

the thing with dreamcast with enough editing the disc contents you could easily burn onto a normal cd since the physical disc size was the same..

so the really major hurdle is the fact that there will be no way to record to a umd disc which you would need to do if you are to expect the psp to play the game...

and yes theorectically you could get a 2gb mem card to put the game on but heres the thing who is going to spend 150+ dollars for a 2 gb card so they can play pirated games.

You have to remember people pirate pc games and console games because to them its cheaper than buying the game legitimatly
it costs like $1 more or less to buy a blank cd or dvd hence it is the most popular method of pirating...

mem cards are expensive making it not feesable to use in any pirating scheme
its nearly 100 dollars for a 512 mb card

People spend $180 odd on GBA Flash Media to play pirated games....

A 1GB Card for the PSP costs $130

And I didnt say Burn them with the PSP, I said read the Data from the PSP to the PC via a cable and some hack thing..

Or someone could dismantle a PSP and try Hack the drive up so it can be connected directly to a PC
