No. In order to activate an EQ2 account you have to have unique CD keys. There is no way to get just the CD keys so you need to purchase the box.
You CAN download the client if you really want (if someone put it up on BT) but it'd be completely useless until you bought the box.

Guild wars is 'ok' game if you don't like paying subscriptions but it's small and gets old in few weeks, EQ2 is light years aways size and content wise although maybe not made for casual gamers

I agree with Slak. It is a great game and it's far better than GuildWars and World of Warcraft.

Nah, guild wars isnt small.. keep in mind that when you reach lvl 20, the PVP portion of the game starts which is in fact where most of the game takes place. Anyways, ive played trials of the isle, and the Combat system is pretty chunky.. for instance, you have to manually walk near a foe to attack it, in guild wars, you just doubleclick your foe and your char runs to it and starts attacking.. But the graphics in EQ2 are very nice, but Guild Wars has much more "impressive" scenery, the opening part of the game "Presearing" is just lovely to look at. But But, il see what il do got 140 hours of gaming time with Guild Wars!

Actually Everquest II is the most disappointing MMORPG ever. It doesn't add anything new to the genre, it's only very big. You have to farm your items and to grind your leveling up. Servers are often laggy, e-bay auctions on virtual EQ2 items are even encouraged by Sony, bots are everywhere and the community is basically built up of three kind of different customers: 16 yrs old kiddies with too much time to waste that brag about their Uber items, depressed adult people with no real life who play 10 hours a day and nice guys who just chose the wrong game to have fun with.
You won't know the real meaning of "boredom" and of "internet gaming madness" until you play E2.
WoW, on the other side, is an addictive MMORPG with a very nice PvE experience, definitely worth the bucks, and Guild Wars has a decent PvE counterbalanced by the best fantasy PvP ever. There's no game with a PvP as deep as Guild Wars, in its genre.
Of the three, Guild Wars is by far the best looking, while E2 has some good potentials IF you have a Uber PC. Otherwise, prepare to severe stuttering and crappy overall visuals. WoW is average, with a pretty unique design.

No, just like any other game the CD-KEY needs to be unique!
As for MMORPG's, its all about taste, neither WOW or EQ2 are the best, they simply suit different people. As for GW, it is not a MMORPG, it is a multiplayer RPG, there is a HUGE difference. It is a good game if you like that sort of thing, but I worry about people who say it looks better than WOW and EQ2

yeh, Guild Wars is a Multiplayer Online Competetive RPG.. Anyways, no one can deny that the graphics in Guild Wars is extremly good. Quality just shines through it all!
So, bottom line is, there is NO way to get this game running except by buying a cd key from fileplanet or buy the game?

They're good, but IMO WOW is better. The models in GW just look cheap to me, the world feels empty too..

And tell me, what does WoW add? Nothing. And you are wrong about the grind, you can lvl up with questing and nothing else pretty much the entire game. I have never had problems with lag and the community is 10 times better than WoW will ever be, and not to mention the content that is constantly being added. WoW has absolutely no content if you compare it to EQ2, and that is a fact not an opinion. You sound just like all the kids who had never played an MMO before WoW came out, and suddenly you know that everything but WoW is crap.
I am possibly wrong about you but please just shut up and leave this thread if you don't intend to add anything useful to it, he didn't want to know about WoW but EQ2.

I always find these flame wars between WoW and EQ2 players amusing, but i won't start it where it does not belong.
Personally i don't play any of the games anymore because nethier did it for me at the time, but I have been thinking of going back to EQ2 for a while, because it's the better of the 2, and I have yet to play a better MMO for years.

Well, just to quote gamespots review of EQ2,.. It doesnt really add anything new to the genre, but it does what it does very good. So it doesnt really give any fresh breaths, but its a good and solid game.
