|

Since i got BF2, my PC is starting to acting up and end up with a shit load of chocks in the game so im about to buy some new parts and i need your advice cause i lost tracks of all the new things in the past year. I cant really put a lot of money if i dont want my wife to found out and make me sleep on the couch for the next months.
My choices so far are:
Asus P5P800 with 3.4E SK-775 1mb
or
Asus A8V-E-DX with Athlon64 3500+
I want to know which one is more powerfull
And im not sure what kind of RAM those mobo are running...look at some list and its like chinese to me with all the different brand and the PC3200, 3500, 3700...its fuckin confusing

I'd go with AMD, as for memory, they're the rates... related to bus speed. You need a certain spec. to fit a certain CPU, the higher ones are backward compatible for the same type of RAM.
OCZ is the best type of RAM you can have, it's kickass for speed, stability, and overclocking - but cost a whole bunch.
Yes, yes I'm back.
Somewhat.

AMD definetely although the 939 socket should be less expensive within the coming months because of the newer CPUs

Hey, I'm looking into a similar update, my 2400+ on a 333 FSB just ain't fast enough for my 6800GT.
I'm personally looking at the AMD 64s, I figure when the mainstream 64bit OS comes it'll be worth it and untill then Linux will take care of all that extra processing power
That said, I'm hesitating between the 3500+, 3200+ and 3000+. all in socket 939 (faster FSB is always good)
The big question is wether it's worth it to buy the 3500+, because since they all have the same FSB speeds, only the clocks are different, and I'm wondering if just paying 100$ less and then OCing a tiny bit would give me the same results as a 3500+, with a 3000+.
Canadian prices (tigerdirect.ca):
3000+ = 200
3200+ = 260
3500+ = 365
As you can see there is quite a difference, Does anything beside stock speed differ between these processors?

On the southshore, getting my lazy bum to MTL iis easy, what store is it?
Other question, I already have some 333mhz DDR Ram (1 gig of it, actually) and I'm wondering if selling them then getting some 400mhz is worth the hassle/loss of cash.
If I keep the 333mhz, and add 1 more gig of 400mhz, can they work at different clock speed? I guess I'll have to underclock the 400mhz one

Depends on the quality of the memories, you can overclock most good brands. If the CPU requires 400MHz DDR, I do not recommend having 333MHz of a cheaper brand.
If it's a 333MHz CPU, then the 400 is backward compatible. If you do not overclock, it doesn't matter really. Having 400MHz DDR in a system with a bus-speed of 333 isn't adding any noticable performance.

Thanks for the answers, Fisk and Kommando.
Fisk: Would using 333mhz ram on a 400mhz bus be a noticable loss of performance?
It's cheap-ass mem, btw. Overclocking it is all but a great idea.
Kommando: That's actually somewhat far away from me, the prices are good (great for some things) but the mere 15 days exchange and 25% restocking fee makes it a no-no. Service looks pretty bad at that place.
