ok building a new comp soon but i'm wonderin if i should wait a lil bit and get a 7800 or get a 6600 + 1gb ram + a HD. That'll be about the same price. I was gonna go for the ram option because at the mo its much more needy but ive heard great stuff abt the 7800 like it's 2.3+ x faster. I might just wait and get the 7800 and ram as well but i'm still a little confused and have never spent this much on anythin for my pc before

My Advice:
Take the 6600+ the HDD and Ram. And then when the 2nd generation GFX gets a full product lineup then buy one of them.

Buying the latest graphics card now is a poor investment. The best is to buy the hardware about 3 months after they hit the market, it's still pretty expensive, but at least you get the most time/value out of it.
Yes, yes I'm back.
Somewhat.

Guty..... the specs at the mo will be whatever i want I want a system that will keep me in good stead for a few years. I'm just curious though because "high end" cards only last about 2 years (9800 for example) before they become "mid range". I'm kinda jumpin on the 6600 train a bit late meaning i'll get 1.5 years out of it. Since i'm not a spoilt cunt and dont have a job nemore and i wont really see this money ever again. I'm just thinking more as a long term investment if the 7800 will really last 6months + longer and if its worth waiting until they hit the shops. I can get the PC "cheap" too but it's still a big choice.

I'm gonna put a sempron 3000 in there to tide me over until I get a 4400+. I've decided to go for the 7800 too because it kicks arse I sohlud have it all working in a month and half

Are you sure about those prices Sublime? A 6600 GT is only £120 on DABS, maybe £80 for Ram plus £80 for HD, and thats around X800 pro prices. I read that the 7800 would be around $700, so maybe £500?! I didn't pay much attention to the 7800 though cos its waaaay out of my price range, so I could be wrong.
