Err... isn't P2P the best way to release stuff, since it's nearly impossible to trace it?
Ftp's have one static IP, and have to remain online 24hours ... (and user accounts with saved IP:s, and siteops that invite left and right)
I think since the masses are here to stay, the "oldSchoolers" just has to realise it's not 1999 any longer.

What incentive would there to release if you dont axx to ftp sites? Ftps with rights to req or axx to archives slaps any p2p's nuts to a tree.

I agree with some of the things you say Martinius, the quality-check is what p2p really, really lacks. However, I still think ftp as a way to distribute releases has been dying a slow death for a long time now, something more evolved needs to be released - something that still has good quality-control, while allowing for a larger distribution scheme.

they arent white hackers, theyre doing it for themself and for the glory within an inner circle. They still work. I do use DC sometimes for that odd release. No mention about it. the DC++ (10 mbits) hubs are nice.

The 100Mbit Dutch university hub is utter ownage. Quite a potent means for releasing your homebrew.

How should pre's work on a p2p system? There is no way you can tell who won a race with p2p systems at the moment, the system would be flooded with dupes in no time

yes that could be a problem..
But let's say that the future solution for rlz will be torrents sites.
The rlz which will be added there first (just like you pre stuff) or it could be a fully automatic by some bot or automatic script.
But on the beginning of seeding new rlz few ppl would be neccesary with a big ass connection to spread the stuff fast but after a while it would go smoothly.
For a DC:
What about some pre-bot there ? If there can be a auto-kick bot or bot who is checking your list for illegal files (or something like that) it's probally that a pre-bot would also worked out.
But the problem with sharing the new stuff at the beggining it also a bit hard.
General comment : The biggest problem with a rlzing a new stuff on torrent or dc is that, that you need a good seeders first but it would be resolved just like a race on sites. It's starts from kick-ass-bot or seeder(topsite) then goes to top l33t users with 10/100mbit (sites) and after that to normal users (dumps). But it never happens anyway.
The Scene will never accept that method just because it too lame (4them?) and it's against rule. It's a bit selfish but nowadays you can't trust even a ppl that you know over a year.
P2P is great idea to keep your anonymous but it need a lot more effort to put into it at the begging and who will be so helpful to start the revolution ?

Something more evolved where every joe blow can get access to? Thats what p2p is for, where every 12 year old on aol has access too.
The only siteop that would give access to anyone to his ftp must be another 12 year old running it on his cablemodem.
Theres nothing wrong with the way ftp sites are run now, you're not gonna get access to one just by asking someone, and no you wont find them on irc either in #warez4j00

But ask yourself a question; how come it's only the targets that either have an FTP or a Torrent-site that get shut down?
Could it be because these targets are the easiest to locate and take out?

Hm, i dont think so. Could it be, that on ftp´s the spreading starts? So it MIGHT be, that they want to take the problem down, where it starts.. but thats only my 2 cent.
I think Torrent-Sites might be interesting to them, cause its not that kinda emule, kazaa crap, and fakes and shit are not present. Thatswhy it´s easier to get stuff, than fucking up your pc with emule. And of course, torrent is way faster than crapmule.
I use torrent myself, to distribute some free, legal software. and its a great way, to spread homebrew stuff fast.
And whats that discussion ´bout scene should start using p2p ??? Scene does not want their releases to be spread, so whats the point? And why the hell should any scener use such a lame point and click programm, to share ( in any way ) his hard work ?? geesh...

Or the best. And FTPs are also a target because they are the closest to the crackers, rippers, ect.

I've watched the original release by POT

Im prolly gunna go see it still
And they cut off the last like2 mins of the movie - its not much, but still
I really dislike POT...all CAMS for that matter....u can hear the guy eating popcorn and coughing and shit, ppl walking infront of the screen...fuckin ridiculous, I'd rather wait for a screener release, or just go pay the $10 to see the movie....and obviously sneak in my own food  honestly, who the fuck wants to pay literally 9.85 for a regular size popcorn and drink....
Fuck, my dad used to go see a double feature and get food + drinks for 50 fuckin cents - this was 40-50 years ago but still....I'll pop my own popcorn and bring in a can of coke, under 3 bucks for the same amount of food...thats why there's piracy.
To bring a girl to a movie now will easily cost u 50-60 bucks if u wanna have a good time
On a friday nite, 30 bucks for 2 tickets, say 20 for food and if she wants to play some kinda arcade game, there's another 10-20....christ
kinda got off topic there
Good movie tho, but the release including the repack is complete shit
