|
 |
Hi. I bought a PS2 recently and have started seeing disk read errors. For around the same price as a new laser, I could get a PS2 network adaptor and HD. So what I ws wondering was, if the games are on the HD, do I need a disk in the drive in order to play them? Or is the dvd-drive only needed to format the HD and is then no longer accessed when playing games from the HD?
To clarify, if I had a PS2 with HD installed and a game on the HD, could I remove the dvd drive and still play from the HD?
Thanks.

Yes
I have this set up
DMS3 chip
DMS3 loads of memcard hdloader
And then I play games of the hDD.
You only need a disc if you dont have hdloader on the memcard. Then what you do is you load the hdloader of a disc andplay games of the hdd. You only need the hdloader to boot games.
EDIT
I install games by taking out the HDD, putting it into my external case for my PC. Load the games on it using wiinhp or something and voila : )

Thanks m2rock, thats pretty much what I was hoping to hear. One thing I'm unsure about though, when you say you load hdloader from a memcard, do you mean the standard PS2 memcard normally used to save games?
Also, I don't know what chip it has. Will any be OK?
(This is actually for my bro's PS2, so I wanna make sure I don't f*ck it)

It is a standard memory card. DMS4 seems good. It can load stuff of a memory card, upgradable *just put update on a cd and update* and I think it can later go into "sleep mode" after a game has been booted. Better help can be found at http://www.psxforum.com/
