Hip Interactive Shutting Down:

Hip Interactive has announced that it has now gone bankrupt and will cease its operations. Failing to receive financial support, the company announced, "discussions with a third party to provide interim relief in respect of the Company's immediate financing needs were not successful."

As of today, the Canada-based publisher will cease all operations and close its doors. The fate of Hip's three upcoming games, Call of Cthulhu, George Romero's City of the Dead, and Jackie Chan Adventures, remain unknown--but presumably the rights to them will be sold to the highest-paying publisher.

Signs of the company's perilous situation were apparent last week, when investors were told that the company was in default on its secured loan. While trying to find other avenues of capital, Congress Financial Corp, its primary funding source, asked the Canadian court to declare the publisher bankrupt.

Meanwhile, the European division of Hip Interactive released a statement saying it's business as usual. "Hip Interactive Europe confirms the upcoming releases, end of September, of its line-up with titles such as Rugby Challenge 2006, Garfield 'Saving Arlene' as well as its exciting line of accessories for all consoles including the Sony PSP handheld."

starforce allow companies to sell more games and more money, preventing pirates from pirating their software....

none of their upcoming games looked very good, ( not even land of the dead Shocked ) oh well. i suppose everyone has their styles , i am still mourning the death of blackisle ( though reincarnation in the form of bioware is not too bad).

well actually the call of cthulhu i am looking foward to, and have been for awhile, is not affected by this, thankfully. i think they should have been more clear in that its coc-destiny's end and not coc-dark corners of the earth which will be sold off. anyways bethesda is publishing this one-the one that isnt just some silly knock-off imho, so yes it will see the light of day. when it will see the day, thats another story.

I don't think HiP did 1 single *good* game - just crapolio like:-
Breed (c) Hip Interactive
CT Special Forces Nemesis Strike (c) Hip Interactive
Firestarter (c) HIP Interactive
Marine Heavy Gunner Vietnam (c) HIP interactive
Sitting Ducks (c) HIP Interactive
Stolen (c) HIP Interactive
Their titles were *slightly* better than ValuSoft's but not by much ;-P

The European branch is in fact an independent company (LSP Games). It was only since this year they had an agreement with HIP to distribute their games in Europe.
