Phase One was quite good - only gripe was as Germans never got my hands on the King Tiger & other cool badass units. Still like to have some sort of base to upgrade my units, etc. Hopefully RLD won't be busted !!

I remember that Soldiers: Heroes of WW2 was way way better than Panzers.

Couldn't stand the "flamethrower cooking" aspect in Phase One. Hope it's been eliminated for Phase Two.

In the E3-interview he said that "realism" wasn't their primary concern, and that they wanted this to be the "Call of Duty" of RTS-gaming.
This doesn't sound good to me :/

Ok, played through the demo.
The graphics are not even nearly as nice as in the E3-preview, and the game handles worse than Desert Rats, and is immensly inferior to Soldiers: Heroes of World War 2.
I'll pass on this one.

actually i found the demo to be fun myself and had a few moments where i was pretty awed by the graphics and sound. i also missed out on the first codename panzers because of the timing with soldiers but i may give this one a try when its released. esp since codemasters is a bitchass publisher and there hasnt been any word on an expansion for that title in the near future. while panzers has yet another sequel in the works? anyways good way to pass the time until a better game is released(which might be awhile..)

I hate the fact that the tigers really have nothing ... NOTHING similar to real tigers apart from how they look.
One tiger could take out 10-11 Shermans.
Everything bounced off of it. To stop them, one would hope that they either entered city terrain, ran out of ammo, or that one got lucky enough to blow one of their caterpillars off (which would lead to that one would have to wait until it ran out of ammo, before making the kill).

wasn't the tiger's rear armour quite weak - the lighter & faster shermans had to out-flank these beasts & then 'pop a cap in their ass'. Also tigers had a small flaw - the driver had a periscope which if hit by a shell, allowed the shell to enter the tank killing most of the crew.

Depends on which one we're talking about... the Tiger I had 80mm thick panzer on the sides and back, and 100mm in the front.
In Tunisia, 75mm artillery fired two shells at it from 50 meters, and the shells just bounced off.
The Tiger II on the other hand had the amazing 185mm thick panzer frontal armor (and 120mm on the sides if I do not misrecall).
Both tanks had 88's as primary weapon.
As for hitting the "hole" for the commander, it was no hole... there was a thick piece of panzer glass there; perhaps a direct hit to the hole could dislodge it, but it would require a master gunner.
---
Sure it had some suspension problems, and were a bit unreliable in assault combat. But no one wanted to fight Tiger tank to tank, or finding it in mixed terrain.
Yes, yes I'm back.

thats all true but in terms of gameplay what fun is it? from the little ive played the game it seems you do need at least 3 tanks to take out a larger tiger tank, so there is some balancing in favor of the tigers. but in terms of gameplay i dont think anyone would want to play a game where a side was using near invicible units. everyone would just give up and throw away their copy of the game. even in soldiers, the tigers were only about twice as tough as the shermans. i just dont see any game using todays technology able to give up unnrealistic game balancing in favor of duplicating real life stratigies. anyways the only game that came close to that i can think of is the combat mission series.

I took out 7 Shermans in "Soldiers" using ONE Tiger ... so not really. That game is a heck of a lot more realistic than this shoddy title.

I don't think that this games should be compared in any way (like: how to compare Soldiers or Panzers to C&C series, they are rts's but kinda different...).
For me only similarity is StarForce.
I like them both for what they offer, becuase they focus on different aspects.
I really like SWINE type of gameplay - so I like Codename Panzers.
I like Commandos series also, and for me Soldiers is how the Commandos should look like.
I don't care which is better, I just play them both...

I think Soldiers & Panzers are very similar games gameplay wise, so the comparison is fair.
What's unfair is how much worse Panzers is.

i just love how you nitpick this game for its historical inaccuracies when the developers themselves say this is Not a historically accurate game. from an interview:
But, like in Phase One, the missions orientate themselves only superficially with their historical role models. Gaming fun is the most important aspect. One hundred percent correctness can be found in other titles.
and yet i bet youve never even played any of the combat mission games, which are held to be the most indepth and researched ww2 strategy games(in the 3d world anyways) to date. probably because the graphics arent as pretty right? if you have then im mistaken, i just find it hard to believe you are arguing for soldiers when it is not in even the same realm of accuracy and research as combat mission.
anyways like i said, i like both games, i just regret not giving codename panzers a chance and will probably this time around, cuz its 'fun' like games are supposed to be.

There was plenty of gaming fun in Soldiers too. It also managed to add a lot of components that made it realistic.
Yes, I've played Combat Mission. The reason I don't do it any more is because of control frustration. Graphics don't bother me much ... but when controls of units, and the "real time aspect" is limited, I get frustrated.
The worst thing about Soldiers was it's missions that made you have to complete missions on time... but the editor surely changed that.
And it has a damn fine co-op multiplayer, with all the same details as the SP.
Yes, yes I'm back.
