Yep, time again.. whats up with the OS's around??
I dunno, perhaps my mind is a bit too imaginative, a bit too demanding.
But i feel its time to stop with the whole taskbar + windows (explorer, notepad windows etc) crap.
We fuckin live in 2005, this is supposed to be the age of a thousand multicolored twinkling light-buttons on a huge computer panel with holographic arrays displaying the latest intergalactic news about the robot invaders, according to the hollywood writers of the 1900's...

What do we have? We have the same damn taskbar and windows that the very Windows 3.1 had.. The only difference is that we now have a couple more colors which can be used to imitate "3d" buttons.
That, amazingly enugh, can appear to be Pressed In when hovering!! Oh my god, i'd take one of those buttons instead of a hologram any day!! Or not...

Yes yes i know of all the "internal" OS changes that has taken place from win 3.1 up til now, but i'm a 3d artist, so i tend to think in more creative terms than simply technical terms.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I live in 2005, i was lucky Question enugh to be born into the 2000 supposed-future-space-age..
I dont want a horizontal taskbar with the same old "Start" button (when is someone gonna come up with something more clever than something that looks it should be in a Porche without keys??)..
I dont want a flat desktop, with the most advanced thing availible is a picture instead of a flat color. I dont want boring desktop icons that i have to arrange.

I want something fitting for 2005. I want something new, something innovative, revolutionary even.
I dont have to have holograps, i am a realist. I just want something new, some new better un-tought of way to control my computer.
I want a 3d OS, not a crappy shit 3d-emulating OS that you can google for, not a little weather .exe running on my desktop.

I want a true 3d, full AA & AF, dx9c shaders, organic menu systems or buttons or icons that change depending on what i want, on what i do. I want my internet explorer to grow another side where i can view my "open-in-another-window" places, i dont want to constantly click the same god damn taskbar shit over and over.
I want something dynamic. I want something thats so damn pretty and has so damn neat shaders and effects that i dont have to play games just to stand sitting in front of an ugly OS all day long.

I want the very same thing but in another theme if i so choose, i want a bio-technical OS, i want every possible customiseable setting for the OS to be availible to me at a mouseclick, i want to see a fuckin pulsating cyborg heart representing the OS core mechanics, i want it to pulsate faster when my cpu is at 100%, and appear to die when its at 1%.

I want to be able to pull a vein from it and view my thermal statistics.
I want to be able to view the inside of the techno-bio-heart and have every humanly possible imaginably setting availible to me there, if i want the computer to delete a folder (another concept that is getting way old, gimme huge lungs and fleshy 3d-with-purty-shader sacks instead) when i tell it to, not when IT wants it.

I want the organic-technostyle OS to be grown around any game or application i run, so i can do whatever the fuck i want if i just wanna check something for a split second while im playing, regardless of a programs alt-tab functionality.

I want there to be a huge red DESTROY button on every semi-organic-mechanic application i run, so i can ALWAYS terminate an application, no matter if my computer decides it doesnt want to follow my orders anymore. NO MORE OF THAT!!
I am the master, not the computer, you obey me now or ill press that damn destroy button, seeing it cower up in a corner, sending Telnet popups to me telling me how sorry it is and that it would never be repeated.
And i fuckin want the computer to think of stuff the developers didnt (geniouses....)... I want a fucking damn "Yes to all" button, when there is a "No to all" button. I dont want any more idiocy. Its the space age for fucks sake.

Amen thats all from me =)) lol.. im a BIT too visionary for my own good *giggle*

Er, yea... gotta say I disagree completely. I think UIs are way too bloated already, and it's only getting worse. When I use linux, I use fluxbox rather than crap like KDE or Gnome. I'd love a fluxbox-style ui for Windows, rather than whatever Windows "Vista" (normally I'm a Microsoft defender, but goddamn that is a stupid name for an OS, right up there with "Bob") has in store for us. The idea that desktops may go 3D as a standard someday is just appalling.

when, and only when they come up with companion-like operating systems that read your thoughts and anticipate your needs it will be nice to have flashy and 3d and whatnot whistles and bells. Else i m confident that 2d navigation will suffice for most the needs in an OS.

If only the *nix OSes would be better for gaming i had switched a long time ago...

And what is this doing in the games forum?

Windows is surely not the best interface you can find, but nobody have done much better Razz
I think it's 100% simpler and faster to stay 2D, 3D can't bring very much to an OS. Still there was the project looking glass from sun microsystem who looked nice.

were using qwerty ffs, it was invented in 1878!

stop with the fucking backwards compability. give us something completley different. we can send crap into space with 3 million different parts all depending on eachother, surley we can develop a new type of computer for mankind.
*bah*

Buy a mac. Never play games again.
In an ever growing complex world, where would you get the simplicity from? You cant make an OS much more simple. Just dumb down the gui for the users like with macs. And i like that one.

As i said before, the best thing would be a semi-sentient pc, with which you could talk to to give it commands and that would anticipate what you d want. For example, if you tell it, play some music, it would know which one you d most likely want to hear and stuff

DesktopX sucks, i even put in a remark about it with the "weather .exe" stuff..
And im talking about a dynamic GUI, no GUI no FUN i agree. I love GUIs, i want the ultimate mega GUI.
And why the hell is everyone always yelling "smoke this smoked that blahblah"? What? Dont you have any imagination of your own? You gotta drug up your already fucked brain to think any further than whats for diner? If so i really pity you.
Because it aint a joke, try to use your last remaining braincells to write your own actual opinion instead of pretend-jokes like that, hell at least TRY to be funny mmk?

Go try Lightstep, I agree that DesktopX sucks but Lightstep can be very nice.

The reason that Microsoft still has the most users is the simple fact that most people are only familiar with Windows. They know how the interface works and MS won't really change it because of that. That makes game devs only working with Windows (sure some games works on Linux too, and some on Mac) because thats where the audience is.

I think that windows works well and can do its job after some customization. New GIU (Lightstep for the moment Razz ), some tweaks here and there and so on. Its stable, very few crashes and fast enough. Sure Linux mostly has less of crashes, uses less resources and are more stable... But do I care? Actually not as all I want to do is play games.

games also crash when the OS crashes Smile, and less resources for the OS means more for the games Smile

Yes but its not like it is gonna change something, windows will still be used. I myself find windows stable and very workable.

If you want more resources, try lightstep takes about 500kb of ram and gets rid of explorer so that it won't be used for the interface anymore.

Well who cares, when there's no games to play?
