Code: | Imagine you could make any movie you wanted to. Imagine you could pluck someone from obscurity and make him or her the hottest star in Tinseltown. Imagine that you had control of an entire movie studio, competing with others to create a string of box office smashes. Imagine being able to use your judgement alone, deciding whether success lies with epic action pictures or lots of low budget, hammy 'B' movies.
Will the stars you've so lovingly groomed develop monstrous egos - refusing to accept that they are now too old to play the romantic leads that made them famous? You can help, but there are only so many times you can send them to fat farms and plastic surgeons.
Will you watch your movies being shot or do you want to direct the action yourself? Will you decide to innovate and introduce the talkies, color or digital sound before any of your rivals? Or will you let the other studios make the investments, leaving you to jump on the bandwagon if the new technology becomes popular?
Many of the things you've ever read or heard about Hollywood are right here in The Movies – from stars having affairs and hitting the bottle to teams of genius filmmakers creating the box office hit of the year. Movie mogul, talent spotter or film director. You can be one or you can be all three. That's the magic of The Movies.
* Become a Movie Mogul of Legend – Design your own studio and run it from the early days of cinema through present day and beyond in Story Mode by managing studio resources, investing in R&D and maximizing box office success by staying one step ahead of the competition.
* Make your own movies – Make movies that appeal to the masses in Story Mode or in Sandbox Mode you can jump into any era and create your dream movie.
* Control the destiny of your cast and crew – Fire and hire them, turn unknowns into movie stars, and take full creative control over script selection and the content of the movies you'll create.
* Play it again and again - Over 30 hours of continuous gameplay, thousands of exciting movie characters, and limitless options allow you to vary just about everything, including the violence, romance, and realism - all mixed with world events that affect audience tastes and expectations.
* Show the world your talents – Post your movies to the web for all to see.

Did a search for a thread for the game but as the forum search filters "the" it's impossible to check all the threads that contain the word "movies" inside. I hope it's not a dupe ..

It looks like it could be a great laugh, but as with anything from Lionhead i will take it with a pinch of salt.
"can you say overhype"

I saw things like that in here and in other "woman problems" topics so...... Am I the only one that thinks some authorities needs to be alerted about Saner and him possibly being a rapist and/or kidnapper ? |
Saner is not being serious. Unless its the subject of Santa!

Code: | While Star Maker hasn't been officially announced yet we are happy to tell you it's gone gold! The first time you might have read about it, was in the interview with Brynley on Womangamers.com. More information will follow soon! For now we'd like to congratulate the whole The Movies' team! |
Code: | We have created a piece of software dubbed the “star maker” where players can create their very own star. Players will be able to morph not only the features of the face, but different skin tones and 50 heads of different nationalities and races. This gives an enormous range of looks of people for the player to toy with. You will be able to distribute points to spend on different characteristics whether it is their acting talents or their likelihood to become a hell raiser and in doing so develop the stars personality. In game the customization continues; we have a costume screen where each element of the costume can be manipulated, as can the hair, makeup, nails and other accessories. Stars get old and can also put on weight so we have created health care facilities where players will be able to loose the weight fast with painful liposuction or take off a few years with the classic facelift. In this surgery facility, you will be also be able to enhance your stars with implants for men and woman, so some cynicism on what drives Hollywood is certainly part of the game’s charm. |
Sweet, but still they havent given any information of the release of Star Maker - date or way of releasing(free download, coming with the game).

It sounds good, it looks good and potentially it could be a real smash - but as said above already; this is Lionhead studios we are talking about and hype surrounding their games doesn't sit well with me.

That's not entirely true. A long time ago, maybe 10-15 years there was a game called Director city(!) or something like that, it was a Sierra game and you did movies there. It was more a text game then graphics but in that time it was really good. I remember playing it myself.
Still, this game looks awsome. And I'm sure they gonna do some really original things in it.

It's still not a sequel though is it.
You can't expect the concept of a game to be entirely original, the game industry has existed too long for that. The game is original in it's implementation though, which is what matters.
