HDTV. i've never heard of HRDTV but if it does exist then logic would suggest that to be the best Smile there aren't many HDTV monitors / TV's out at the moment anyway but give it 6 years and this format will replace normal TV streams.

That's because it's HR.HDTV, it has far superior sound and video compared to HDTV releases but it's about twice as big.

What are u saying? In Canada u can pick up a 27-30 inch HDTV compatible tv. If u have a digital box or dvr, u can simply request an HDTV digit set top box or dvr. I have HDTV - my cable company offers most of the regular channels in HDTV now, plus we have HDTV pay per view channels and HDTV movie channels

Doesnt the UK have a Digital Communication Standard act? The one that takes affect this year? The US and Canada have one. The American version is slightly different, but in terms of channel service, all broadcaster's (like channels like ABC,NBC,CBC etc) have to offer HDTV and Digital tv services and start phasing out analog which they have done in most cases by now. They still offer the analog service but, but most have channels have both - depends on ur tv and equipment Smile
Watching the Superbowl on a big screen HDTV (rented one last year) is wicked! Very Happy

The UK hasnt caught on quite as fast as the rest of the world, mainly because our government likes the money it makes from TV lisencing. Oh well.

I think the time line for digital taking over is still a few years off.. I think?

a hdtv capable tv is able to run in a higher res. your old tv is limited to what ntsc or pal is able to do.

depends on the resolution your lcd is able to run, but it outbeats a ntsc or pal tv easily, even if the video is a downsampled for viewing.

Yeah the rest of the Europe is behind aswell, I have only found one Plasma TV here that support 1080i resolution and it costs over 50K USD.
There ar alot of Plasma/lCD s on the market but they only offer really low resolutions. When it comes to broadcasting HDTV I belive there is only one network in Europe that does that, I think it's called something wiht
eu 1018i

So yeah we're really behind and I hate it, maybe I sould move to the U.S. or smething Razz

Is it? High res plasma/lcd tv cost around $3000 at cheapest and their good. HDTV has been here for years, only difference now is that analog tv is shutting down here for good.

Sky TV is bringing out a HDTV box and system next year in the UK.

But knowing sky's pricing system and the fact you will have to pay a fortune over here for a new TV (if you want a decent size) you will prolyl be looking at £60 + a month plus £1500 for a good sized TV
