Media Player Classic
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=82303&package_id=84358

plays everything... go to file/load subtitle and you can select the one you want...

well ive never needed to permanetly embed the subs with an avi... but i tried a few things, i burned an xvid and subs on to data disk and tryed playing them in my divx cetified player... and that didnt work, after that i tried muxing the subs with the avi using avimux, that also didnt work. so uh, dont know. maybe someone else knows what to do.

mhhhh...as far as i remeber when you istall vobsubs they install a plugin for virtual dub. so fire up virtual dub, goto video > filters and choose the vobsubber plugin. then reencode the video.

the way toeffy described will do it, no need to make any advanced reencode either... I would suggest you rip the audio and then reencode with the external audio source though.
