Hey guys, just thought I'd share my experience with trying to get a downloaded copy of SCCT working. After wasting 20 DVDs, I finally realized that the biggest problem was that I was burning the mds/mdf to shitty ass media (Vakoss DVD+R). After picking up some Sony DVD+Rs and burning to the first one, it worked like a charm. So here's the steps:
- In Alcohol, select Image Burning Wizard.
- Select the mds that corresponds to the mdf file (the mds must have the same name as the mdf otherwise the mds will not be able to find the mdf file). In my case the mds was 38,322 bytes and the mdf file i had was the Snake one 4,454,586,368 bytes.
- Select the option "Burn RMPS to recordable media".
- Set the Write Speed to the lowest for your device (may not be necessary). In my case it was 4X.
-MAKE SURE TO BURN TO GOOD RELIABLE MEDIA (e.g. Sony DVD+R)
- After burning, enable RMPS emulation in Alcohol.
- If all goes well, the SCCT launcher should appear. Install the game as normal.
- Disable all IDE CD/DVD drives (either yank the power and cables out, or I believe its possible to use SFNightmare as well)
- Before you can play, SCCT will require you to reboot so that the ShitForce drivers can be loaded.
- After rebooting, load the game, making sure that the DVD is in an External USB2 DVD drive. You will be required to enter the CD Key before you can get in the game (this is required every time you want to play). For some reason, sometimes the first time I copy/paste the CD key from the Snake release NFO (begins with 2Q4PL) doesn't work. I sometimes have to hit the Retry button and then either copy/paste the key from the NFO again or hit the Check Disc button again. THen it will load the game. I also noticed something weird that when I opened the NFO with the CD Key in Notepad, and the copied and pasted the key, i would receive the error message about the invalid CD key. However, if opened in Wordpad or GetDiz, the CD Key would work, sometimes after the second time, but it would work.
- That's about it.
Btw, i have an I/O Magic External USB2 DVD drive.
P.S. I'm not sure if Alcohol has to be running each time you want to play for the RMPS emulation to be in effect so that the DVD works properly. If someone can clear this up, please do.
Good luck!
P.S.S. thanks to A. for all the help, advice, and encouragement!
